The governors forum in the South East should go a step further to make a mandatory law banning marriages for ladies and men below 20 or 22.
Basically make it a law that one must access certain level of tertiary education before marriage. Even if it is a skills acquisition school. If you refuse education, you should not vote and you should not procreate..
Families started by illiterates constitute a great nuisance to the society!

18yrs is legal age in Nigeria constitution.. No government will stop the marriage if she was of legal age which is 18.

If the leaders in Beijing were ruminating in mediocrity, that unbelievable record would not have been achieved. And you know what? They have set a target to make sure that half of the population gets college education..

My point?
That it has not been done elsewhere doesn't mean that we can not do it. The South East loves education. Make education free for 30 or 50 years across board in the SE, and we will have up to 90% educated population thereafter.

It is a question of policy. The people are culturally attuned to tag along..

How can a man of 33yrs marries 15yrs old girl?

A man of 60yrs can marry 30yrs despite the wide age gap but a woman of 30yrs is old enough to decide fit herself

A male of 20yrs is not allowed to marry a 15yrs old female despite the 5yrs age gal because she's underage

It's not hypocrisy. Its doing what is right. If you allow a girl of 14 to be marriageable that means all those things you stated is allowed.

Child marriage is very common in parts of the SE.

This particular marriage happened in Enugu and I know for sure that in places like Nnsuka and Ogbalafor in same Enugu, child marriage is rampant to even girls as young as 13 that's why this marriage happened in the first place.

In parts of Ebonyi, child marriage is also rampant and polygamy is widely practiced and its not even in the Muslim pocket communities but across most communities.

This marriage in question was sanctioned by the girl's parents and it happened in the open and not in secret because such marriages are socially and culturally not frowned upon in that community.

You guys think that some of us have not been to your SE and will come here and be spewing jargons trying to whitewash such incidences as isolated and rare when its the opposite that such marriages are not only widespread but normalized.
