Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, assuring Nigerians of his willingness to appear before the anti-graft agency.

Malami disclosed this in a post on his personal Facebook page on Friday, describing himself as a law-abiding citizen committed to accountability and transparency in public service.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

He explained that his decision to publicly announce the development was consistent with his long-standing advocacy for openness and responsible governance.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, noting that he would keep the public informed as events unfold.

Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

His tenure featured several high-profile legal battles, including asset recovery initiatives, anti-corruption reforms, and contentious government decisions that drew both national and international attention.

He was also a central figure in cases involving major financial crimes, international arbitration disputes, and governance reforms.

In the later years of his tenure, Malami faced public scrutiny over issues relating to asset declarations, contract approvals, and the management of recovered funds—allegations he consistently denied.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not released details regarding the nature or scope of its invitation to the former attorney-general.

Even when we all know that Abubakar Malami was on the top three list of Buhari's most corrupt appointees, it's not as if this EFCC's prospective investigation is meant to yield any positive results.

He was the one who single-handedly removed the former EFCC chairman, even though that one was also trying. He also went and brought Maina back and reinstated the fugitive into civil service.

Why the announcement? He should honour it in silence, the EFCC will make the news of the aftermath public if necessary.

The same Malami that announced Nnamdi Kanu's abduction on national TV in the HAUSA language as a sign of triumph.

One day, his own day will come.

This quota system minister that lost all fPMB's cases in court until Tinubu came to his rescue. He'll probably bungle his own case anyway. You can't give what you don't have. fPMB settled for his loyalty far ahead of his competence. Someone he should have sacked after the first 2years.

As AGF under Buhari, Malami ensured no Fulani was prosecuted for even the most heinous crime known to man.

He particularly empowered the unbridled killing spree and rampage Fulanis went on in the South. This is not about ADC, APC or PDP politics.

Every Nigerian, if we care about people paying for their crime so that a just and egalitarian Nigeria emerges, must welcome the prosecution and jailing of Malami.
