Nigerian Army Promotes 105 Officers: Major Update by Iexclusivenews(op): 8:49pm On Nov 28, 2025
Nigerian Army announces massive promotion: 28 Brigadier Generals elevated to Major Generals in landmark decision.

The Nigerian Army Council has made a historic announcement. A total of 105 senior officers received promotions this Friday.

Twenty-eight Brigadier Generals now hold the rank of Major General. Additionally, 77 Colonels have been elevated to Brigadier General positions.

Lt. Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the development. The announcement marks a significant restructuring within the military hierarchy.

Among the newly promoted Major Generals is Brig Gen O Adegbe. He serves at the Defence Intelligence Agency currently.

Brig Gen SM Uba, Director of Defence Information, also received a promotion. Furthermore, Brig Gen RE Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, made the list.

The Defence Operations Deputy Director, Brig Gen RT Utsaha, got elevated too. Brig Gen AM Umar, Commandant of Warrant Officer Academy, joined them.

Notably, Brig Gen ZA Saidu received a posthumous promotion to Major General. This gesture honors his service and ultimate sacrifice.

The 77 new Brigadier Generals come from diverse military departments. They include officers from the Resource Centre Abuja and Civil Military Affairs.

Colonel Y Ibrahim from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre received a promotion. Colonel NN Gambo and Colonel A Saidu also made the grade.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, congratulated all officers. He emphasized their responsibility to justify this elevation through performance.

The COAS charged them to demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities consistently. Moreover, he urged innovative approaches to Nigeria's evolving security challenges.

General Shaibu stressed the importance of the oath of allegiance. Officers must defend Nigeria's territorial integrity without compromise, he stated.

Their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute and unwavering. Professional conduct will inspire subordinates and strengthen military effectiveness.

The promotion exercise reflects the Army's commitment to rewarding merit. It also ensures continuity in leadership across critical military formations.

These elevations come amid ongoing security operations across Nigeria. The officers will bring fresh perspectives to counterterrorism and peacekeeping efforts.

Senior military officers from the DIA seem to be getting accolades these days.

Way to build your own "loyal cult" I guess.

Navy and Air Force to follow suit soon.
