Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by NaijaCover(op): 7:22am On Nov 29, 2025
A security consultant, Kabiru Adamu, has warned that many young Nigerians expressing support for recent coups in Africa do not understand the realities of military rule.

Adamu gave the warning on Friday while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.

According to him, Nigerians under 30 had not experienced a military dictatorship and may have a wrong impression about the wave of coups across the continent.

For anyone below 30 years old, they may not have experienced that.

“There’s nothing at the moment telling me that the Gen Z in Nigeria understands the consequences of a military dictatorship, because I see them supporting the dictatorship that is taking place in Burkina Faso, in Mali. They see those military juntas as heroes
,” he said.

The security expert said the agitation partly stemmed from narratives amplified on social media, which governments must monitor more deliberately.

Adamu noted that governments worldwide, including Nigeria, should be concerned about the conversations shaping public sentiment.

He said disinformation campaigns were glorifying coup leaders online, creating a dangerous influence among young Nigerians.

“The other consequence not always spoken about is what happens on social media. All of a sudden, you see disinformation and misinformation portraying these military leaders as superheroes.

“They then gain followership within countries where democracy still thrives, unfortunately, including Nigeria. So yes, it is disturbing,” Adamu added.

As bad as democracy is, military should never be an option. The issue with democracy be say na mugus dey always get voice pass, because they are always the majority.

They don't, they think it's all fun and games, till X closed, Facebook closed, no freedom of speech. In military regime no laws or constitution, a bunch of rabid heads just control the nation how they feel and like, with their own rules. Genz say they want freedom but calling for enslavement. They need common sense.

Abeg enough of all this fear you people are inciting. What could be worse than what Nigerians are currently going through? No one anywhere is praying for Military takeover but the rot of the politicians with reckless abandon is going unchecked, while the masses are always at the receiving end, reason why you see people calling for military takeover

Even Abacha's regime was not as terrible as it is now so make we hear word abeg

The people who experienced it, did they understand it before it happened.?..

We learn everyday

It's the military who put us in most of this mess starting from the days of Agui Ironzi (who destroyed the regional government and unicameral structure of government which was the best for us considering our multi racial setup) down to the days Abdul Salami (who handed us a fraudulent constitution that doesn't reflect the will of Nigeria & its other tribes but was drafted to help the North accomplish their selfish agenda). The most stable economy and high quality of living are found in countries with no history of military coups . South Africa, Morocco, Algeria are good examples

This regime is worse than any military regime ever.
What did Abacha do that Tinubu has not done??

Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by yesloaded:
Military regime ain't funny but I can tell you there are some sanity although there's too much force

What we are witnessing now looks like military with little touch of civilian rules

Go and check many of the roads constructed under military regime compared to the nonsense that many of these governors are contructing up and down. As a contractor, you dare not deliver rubbish project but under democracy, it's paddy paddy things, a situation whereby a road construction job is given to a tailor 😂

Bottomline is, we don't really need a military coup at all but we need a GOOD SENSIBLE LEADERS that will be elected via electoral process. We don't need all these charlatans that are after their pocket, those that see governnance as a means to loot the treasury!

Gen Z has never really experienced the full benefits of good democracy. If the government wants young people to stop hailing or clamouring for the military, then it must prove through its actions that democracy can actually work, deliver results, and improve their lives.”

many dont enjoy the freedom they have now, i remembered when one artist working for the guardian newspaper drew abacha and he was arrested for it. at some point the whole guardian was locked down and tell magazine was only publish once a month or so, those days where chaotic assassination here and there.

many dont understand that if democracy is run the right way its best for the people

Nigerians just want something that works, everyone knows that this is not it. And come 2027 this charade of a thing called leadership might be extended.

This statement is actually long overdue... But then, the "democratic" leaders are in themselves bunch of corrupt men and women, from top to bottom.

The problem in Nigeria is the amount is stealing going in in civilian administration is so shameful and the military administrations in Nigeria created so much

The states where created by the military
Third mainland bridge
Abuja the new capital
The conference center Abuja which Wike refurbished and named after Tinubu was built by Babangida
We didn’t have long lasting insecurity like this

The bottom line is insecurity
Without security it’s difficult to pursue development
So the bedrock most be fixed if not people will keep supporting the military

That's all they say to justify their misrule.
Military rule is bad but democratic rulers must do better in Africa. If Africans leaders do their best and make lives easier , no one would be talking about the military
Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by kgr8mike(m): 8:19am On Nov 29, 2025
Coup has not solved any problem in Nigeria except for fast state creation. Please we need democracy to continue. We had had coups before and we don't need it again. All the ills of democracy will be solved by having more democracy.
Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by iichidodo: 8:19am On Nov 29, 2025
Times during military regimes as I can recall were monotonous, boring and stolid as toddler..No ice cream, no new clothes, fuel scarcity. Real fear and terror everywhere especially when those khaki boys are on patrol. No night life because of curfew, no information on what the the actual hell was going on. The only information we got was just plain propaganda, the economic recession we having now is just child's play compared to that time. At least in our time, the standard of living is somewhat better than the 80s...So we had then low standard of living and extreme hard living conditions and if you protest, unknown soldiers will come and take you away from your family forever

Yes but we understand democracies have failed
. It's better to have military dictators than have the type of democracies we have today

We want restructuring
We want equitable state creation
We want a new system of government

And a military government would fight security head on

The military guys always think the civilian rulers are not doing enough through diplomacy and politically. Mali is a good example. Now the whole country is under the control of different terrorist groups. Soldiers should stay in their barracks and let politicians lead the country abeg. They know nothing about ruling a country.

He failed to put the fundamental thing thats causing rhis influence. A generation that saw their economy been destroyed before their own eyes. A generation that saw unprecedented inflation rocking standard of living and their education no longer guaranteed. A generation where their voices cannot be heard and election rigging out of their own will. A generation that saw old men ruining their future and destinies in perpetual poverty. A generation that crossed the jungles, desert and Mediterranean sea on foot to Europe in 21st century. A generation that saw the corrupted elite misappropriating funds. Running expensive government. Mind you all the infrastructure still standing today where bult be the military. Federal road, stadium, hospitals, although they failed in rainway but watching Nigeria videos in the 70s to 90s you will see that Nigeria was more better. Street more cleaner, hospitals more clean and orderly.Schools more clean and maintain. Everything destroyed in the last 30 years or so.
Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by Natbrowny: 8:22am On Nov 29, 2025
A security expert should advice the nation on what to do with the insecurity happening daily in the democratic reign and FOR NOW LEAVE THE GEN Zs alone about their beliefs on Military rule.

An expert in security should help find a lasting or even temporary solution to kidnapping n and banditry terrorizing the nation.

No day goes by without 200 news updates about insecurity. And the democratic rulers all talk About defections to parties and public displays of Rolls-Royce. Its crazy
