What's the essence of democratic institutions if they can't grant security of lives and properties? It's true that our past military leaders are a big factor to our current status, but one can't deny their sense of patriotism and loyalty. There was some semblance of discipline and sanity compared to the ubiquitous wayward situation we have today. In our 26 years democratic journey, only few indices have improved compared to teg 1990s. In fact, we can't call it an improvement looking at the number of years spent. Politicians are running this country aground, and the spate continues with each election cycle.

I noticed that seun has removed the nauseating 20 character rule. He must have noticed the plummeting of traffic to the platform. In the past weeks, most FP topics did no beyond 3 pages of comments.

democracy has not work in africa
lets try another system
Democracy is not working because we don't want it to. With democracy we have the voice, power, and liberty to choose what we want, how we want it. We decided not to use it, because we are blinded with either religious, political, or tribal sentiments. It will be worst with military, believe you me.

But they must understand fat wicked and corrupt civilian politicians?

Yes but we understand democracies have failed
. It's better to have military dictators than have the type of democracies we have today

We want restructuring
We want equitable state creation
We want a new system of government

And a military government would fight security head on
The military is the problem of everything you listed up there.

They ruined regionalism

The created more states in the north compared to the south

They introduced a unitary system of government

They created unviable states

Gen X here. I understand military coups well, having lived through some of them.

As civilians, we just put on the radio in the morning, and start hearing military "martial" music, playing on a loop.

At the appropriate time, we hear "fellow Nigerians......." Followed by a long speech, usually in the Hausa/Fulani accent.

We visit neighbours to discuss the implications of the new government, and get more details about it as the hours go by.

In a few days, ministers are announced, military governors are posted, and they, inturn appoint commissioners and directors-general.

Life goes on.

The sky doesn't fall on us common folk.

Politicians may go to jail or be placed under house arrest, but coups usually didn't affect us much, save for corruption, police and military brutality, but don't we have that right now?

Our "expert" should go and sit down, jare.
You cannot superimpose the command structure of Nigeria's military establishment on civil society and expect any less than stunted growth.
Since this has been proven time and again, I am afraid you come across as a very uninformed member of Gen X.

If Tinubu & NASS can permit it, the military should be allowed to rule for 6months, to reset the brains of the so called Gen-Z

What did Abacha do that Tinubu has not done??

Abeg make una shift one side
If Abacha were president, Obi would have been in prison, Nnamdi Kanu would have got death penalty. Sowore and Nnamdis lawyers that organized the free Kanu protests would have been in Kuje prison. Ipob members would have been executed like Ken Saro Wiwa...get the picture now? Guess you are a Gen z.

I keep hearing this statement all the time,as if gen zs don't have parents, in many instances it's the parents of the so called genzs who experienced military rule that keep expressing nostalgia about military governments that made the genzs favor it.

Is that not why the old people voted buhari in 2015 because of nostalgia of his time as a military head of state?
Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by sko(m): 9:33am On Nov 29, 2025
Neither do they understand Buhari before they voted for him in 2015.

Osebanjo:
You think Gino doesn’t have his own followers? Or you think there’s no possibility that if Gumi is arrested today, it won’t birth some other terrorist sect? Just like Boko haram and all? If not that Shia followers of Elzakzaky happens to be lenient and not interested in picking up arms you think Iran wouldn’t have armed them for “self defense” against the Nigeria government as we speak? I believe insecurity in Nigeria is at its peak now and with time I also believe it will go down but might not end there because of the problems across the Sahel unless we build a wall across our borders. I watched a recent JNIM jihadist fighters interview and none of the guys present are even black. They are all folks from Northern Africa like Libya and all but yet operate a terrorist cell in Nigeria. They got here somehow. You have to be Weiss fighting insecurity so you don’t create more chaos. God help us.
I don't care about the anger of Gumi supporters, I care about the anger of the victims whose parents and relatives have been killed by jihadists terrorists, I care about how prepared we are in the southern Nigeria, middle belts, how fortified we are. This jihadists war have gone on in West Africa since Othman dan fodio, even before him the Ottomans did theirs, we defenders of freedom must do our bit, so the next generation live free and progressively.

Just like Israel doesn't care about the anger of Iran, Hezbollah , Khomeini or Hamas...they care about their preparedness and they crushed the rabid jihadists.

Honestly Speaking, Small Children Don't Really Understand what exactly Military Coup Means.

Don't Forget, Mr Blogger Is Reporting The News.
True . Military regime is horrible . Imagine a tinubu or buhari without restraints . Imagine the unadulterated wickedness . African military regimes will break any coconut head gen z . You.talk anyhow you.see anyhow . To.test run what a military regime looks like , go and pick a fight with a military man in this democracy . Whatever you see , multiply it by 100.

I experienced military regimes . They are generally bad especially African ones. You can be lucky and get a great leader who can change for the worse and become a sit tight military leader . You are stuck with him till another military coup oust him . But the most Tinubu can do is till 2031 . After which he is totally out .

This frypan head fake professor should realize the following:
1. Nigerian thrives in development under military regime
2. The military chose d best politicians with integrity to work with them.
3. The people become united. It becomes the people vs military unlike now where we are divided across political, religion ethnic lines.
4. Military are disciplined. Most of our politicians today are dropouts, touts, certificate forgers etc.
5. Military regime does not sacrifice competence on winning next election.
6. The issue of distributing job slots to kings, politicians rather that qualified Nigerians started in 1999 and has become d order of d day now. Qualified Nigerians are jobless.

Finally, Nigeria cannot continue with this banditry democracy.

No one anywhere is praying for Military takeover but the rot of the politicians with reckless abandon is going unchecked, while the masses are always at the receiving end, reason why you see people calling for military takeover

Even Abacha's regime was not as terrible as it is now so make we hear word abeg
Stating you are a gen z without stating you are a gen z. Abacha regime? You must not be alive then. He was assisinating people at will, shooting protesters point blank, what about unending fuel queues, long days and weeks of blackout, abacha stoves, year long strikes etc.

I've experienced both and I can categorically say that Democracy in Nigeria is worse. The third mainland bridge we have today is made by the military. If a good military head wants to make roads, bridges or any infrastructure at all, just know that it will be done 100% well, but let a democratic president of Nigerian try it, that structure will even collapse before he finishes his tenure.
All we can ask for is a good Military man who really have the country at heart, then watch how all policies will be effectively implemented and everything done in orderliness.

All these democratic presidents are just wasting our time.
You are either too young or just suffering from recency bias. Nigeria had 30 years of military rule and there was no single good man among them. No major infrastructure was started and completed by them. The third mainland was started by shagari and he would completed it if he was allowed to finish his term not overthrown.

The khaki boys started all the problems nigeria has now from abolishing federalism to instituting corruption and massive looting, filling the civil service with a section of the country.

Babangida and Abacha regime were the worst. They brought all kinds of vices to the society; civil service corruption, Pervasive armed robbery, looting billions of dollars into swizz bank accounts, year long ASUU strikes, zero press freedom they close down any media that write opposing article; tell magazine etc, kaduna riots of 80s and 90s killing many christians, killed the education and universities. Lecturers were poorly paid until obj increased their salary. Doctors became poor with terrible pay even japa was almost impossible in the 90s.

So tell me what good thing about the military?
Re: Gen Z Doesn’t Understand Military Coup – Security Expert by NOETHNICITY(m): 11:22am On Nov 29, 2025
They don’t know that under military rule their heroes VDM and Sowore would be immediately thrown into prison.
Still remember that evening when we heard that Abacha had died, the wild celebrations at the football field.
I do not entirely blame gen Z anyway, given the many failures of civil rule

I only had to read your number reason to realize that the man very very right about gen z being ignorant.

During the military regimes rice was a luxury. We use to jump up if our mom announces that rice was going to be made for dinner. Also in my entire street of more than 2000 people, only 2 people had cars. Only 5 homes had television.

As a young student, I use to trek 1.30 mins to school and 1.30mins back
Think about it.
