Why Military Take-over Could Be Worse In Nigeria? by badoh(op): 11:38am On Nov 29, 2025
I'm watching keenly how insecurity is threatening the unity and existence of Nigeria and how the government of the day has not shown any willingness to tame it. Unfortunately I see some people by their comments online calling for military take-over and I ask what difference will it make if the military take over Nigeria? This same military are well funded by the govt and given required support but why are they not winning the war? We have been witnessing insurgency since the time of Goodluck Jonathan and it keeps getting worse. If truly the military institutions are potent, why haven't the military in mali, niger and burkina-faso restore peace in their respective countries? The military governments in these countries are worse-off than the government they toppled. How are we sure military government will make any meaningful thing in Nigeria especially since their past actions have shown the kind of people they are? Unfortunately, the current government appear lukewarm and not ready to fight insurgency. Like someone asked, did Tinubu signed a pact with the northerners not to attack the bandits so as not to loose their support in 2027? How can a govt appear weak and docile and causing global embarrassment to the country? How do you expect peace to reign in your country when bandits are brandishing ammunitions in broad day light even in front of security agents? Where are the attack helicopters? Why are they not put into use or they have embezzled the fund? Is Tinubu benefiting something from this insurgency because his body language seems he's not ready to protect the people. How could people be travelling and they get kidnapped on the way? You need to show that you don't take nonsense and come out with full-force to engage these monsters even if it will cost you your second term? And for those calling for military take over, you have a point but are you ready for the excesses of these guys? Majority of Nigerians are law breakers and those things you're enjoying without being challenged will come back to haunt you. Some of you tap electricity illegally, some of you dump rubbish on the road, some of you spew nonsense on social media, some of you carry and spread fake news in order to attract traffic and get more likes. Just know that most social platforms will be shut down and by then you'll appreciate a democratic dispensation.

There's no type of coup or military dictatorship we haven't seen in Nigeria. We are done with that.

Keep your opinion to yourself cos I never insulted anyone when I drafted this thread. It's very easy to counter opinion without resorting to insult which some of you are fond of.

During the days of military rule in Nigeria, salary was treated like a favour, not a right. You will see govt owing 10 month salary. And if anyone dared to organise a protest, the military would hunt down the key organisers and arrest them without blinking. When I resumed university as a jambite, one of our lecturers was missing. We later discovered that Abacha’s government was trailing him because of his role in an ASUU strike.

People today need to listen again to Abacha’s takeover speech. Almost every union in the country was banned and crushed. Those who sit online shouting about “dictatorship” would not even have the freedom to talk. The platform would either be shut down or the owners arrested. There would be no boldness to complain because there would be no space to speak.

Soldiers were everywhere, intimidating and harassing civilians. Forget the Constitution, they did not care about that document. They came with decrees and forced the whole country to obey. Public opinion meant nothing. Rights and freedoms meant nothing. They forced their will on everyone and you would not be able to challenge anything.

God forbid a return of military rule to Nigeria, even for a single month.

Just as there is no type of civilian regime we haven’t seen in Nigeria, including one headed by a notorious drug baron, aren't we supposed to be done with such civilian regimes especially the one headed by a drug bárón

indeed you were not making sense.
Nigerian military isn't Mali or Niger military. Why not ask the democratic govt to act and leave them to the brunt of a coup if one ever happens. If a coup succeds against Tinubu today, there will massive ju ilation in the north and east for obviously different but hard to justify or counter argue reasons. Is like a Nigeria with 1 milliom souls under Broda Amoda is better than another with 250m souls not under Tinubu's reign?

The north will jubilate today if a coup succeds so dont say they are election losers in the north. Thats like saying the APC rigged the north helplessly and so they are pained. It may be true but cannot be acknowledged by someone of your partisan status.

If this terrorism continues to spread, two things are likely to happen: military takeover or breakup of the country.

You don't expect people to hold unto democracy if their lives is at great risk

Don't threaten anybody, if this insecurity continues to spread then military intervention is required to reset the system

One question is do people still have freedom of protest like it was during the days of PDP?

During Jonathan election was better compared to what we have now. Nigeria wasn’t really ripe for military system at the time. Such can’t happen now.

Nigerians and tired and helpless and need a change or reset. If the crops of politicians are not ready to fix the country. Create free and fair elections. Reduce borrowing and waste. The younger generation are growing and expanding with no future. The insecurity will continue to get worst. Nigeria as a nation have lived more than it time it was created for. Right now things have reached the limit. It will soon burst like a overripe pulse.

Who exactly would launch the so-called breakup? Certainly, the rest of the country except the South West has had enough of Tinubu and his offensive Yoruba jesters littering everywhere and gloating all over the place, and can't wait to get rid of them, even if it means another northerner would take over.

Who are the sponsors?

Even abacha regime is better than this SW president. This is the most useless government in the history of nigeria. The average family could train thr children in sch.Go to hospital and get good treatment and drugs. They could feed thr children. The only people who had problems with the government was criminal politicians and criminal bank ceo and civil servants
