Nigerians should watch out for a similar script in 2027: Nigerian politicians learn nothing good from the outside world. It is only the bad we learn. If not, tell me why Nigerians should be running to South Africa in 2025. APC go. Another party may do better. |

It does not deny that African elites may engage in wrongdoing...On the contrary, it asks us to acknowledge – and contextualise – instances of mal-governance in terms of how external donors and companies often enable (and encourage) such actions to preserve lucrative economic arrangements. Nkrumah’s key text – Neo-colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism – was published in 1965... Less than a year after it was released, President Nkrumah was overthrown in a military coup abetted by Washington. For example, my book details the marriage of corporate interest and donor aid in the case of the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition (NAFSN). Ostensibly aiming to end hunger in recipient nations such as Ghana and Malawi, the NAFSN has been seen to facilitate ‘land-grabbing’ amid creation of ‘agricultural corridors’. Namely, subsistence farmers appear to be dispossessed in favour of the agribusiness needs of corporate NAFSN partners (including in export crop sectors such as palm oil). The New Alliance is backed by donors including UK DFID and USAID – whose aid lubricates African governments’ acquiescence to land ‘releases’. Donor support toward NAFSN agribusiness interests is publicly legitimised in terms of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).This is just but one example My book – like Nkrumah’s – will likely raise objections from the donor community and from those academics who constitute their clientele.Author: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/mark-langan

Ikaeniyan0:The difference between their election and that of Nigeria is that Nigeria election was decided with GLITCHES 🤣🤣🤣 and they want the whole world to accept that. The simple question Tinubu and his supporters refuse to answer is that, if the GLITCHES election was not in their favour, would they have accepted that? I just understand that all the people supporting Tinubu are all hypocrite and how it happened is what I still don't understand. 😈😈 |

Wetin happen for Guinea-Bissau na real correct correct subversion of democracy, na like soft coup wey the sitting president himself arrange. Instead of to conceed power give the legit government wey people elect, because him don lose election or him term don finish, him refuse to gree step aside. Him just go dey manipulate the whole system by colluding with him friends for military, and under the guise of say him dey bring "stability," him just hand over control give them. Na deep plan to bypass we the people, so dat him and him circle of friends fit still dey control things for behind, shield themselves from all the corruption and human rights abuse wey dem do, and continue to dey chop the country money. By dismantling democratic institutions and bringing soldier influence, this move no only betray the citizens vote but just dey make sure say all the wrong wey dem do to pipo go remain like dat, no go ever come out or anyone go answer for am. Na pure injustice, no be better politics. This kain dangerous playbook wey dem use undermine their vote resemble the one wey President Bola Tinubu use for Rivers State for Nigeria. Even though na full soldier handover no happen, the way dem use power shake table, unsettle the governor wey people legally elect, create the same kain vacuum wey dey ripe for undemocratic control. The imposition of "state of emergency" something wey dem suppose use only for real security wahala just become one kain trick to remove elected person and put one person wey go just dey answer dem. E dey nullify the vote wey all of us cast. The biggest hypocrisy be say, this same "emergency" power, dem no fit declare am for the states wey the real security wahala dey, because dem no be dem political opponents. Na so so shame. --- Shame to dem! We go concentrate for our own Nigeria matter dey go. |

Realguyman1:Whatever understanding we've gathered from the first paragraph of the write up has been distorted by the last paragraph. What do you understand by opposition in a political setting? Opposition is the party that's not yet in power, but struggling to take power. The last paragraph, according to the analysis of the election observers ( GEJ and Ousmane Sonko) that the coup has been described as being staged by the opposition party. Oya, explain to me what this statement meant. Who told you that the opposition cannot work with members of the incumbent government? Is there any law forbidding that? We were not there, just that we are all analyzing the information coming from the horse's mouth. The English is straightforward. |

I approve this coup because it's most likely to be in the best interest of the country because I can see AU and ECOWAS are opposing. Because AU are colonizer's puppets, any coup they oppose must be good for the country and Africa. So we as Africans should support the new military regime Guinea Bissau. |

reddingtonblack:If you like guess I am Tiv, I don't engage in such low intellectual discrimination and discussions. It's on record that Mr Tinubu is the most unpopular president to win the elections going by the INEC result. You can argue with facts or statistics. As uninspiring as he was, Muhammadu Buhari won a second term in Nigeria's Presidency with 56% of the popular vote in the presidential election. Keep on talking tribes and petty politics. "Na statistics we go chop?"

reddingtonblack:I wrote👇 The problem with democracy in Africa is that the unpopular people are unwilling to accept that they are not the people's choice so they will scatter it for everyone if they don't have their way. What in my statement is wrong? In democracy, if Candidate A beats Candidate B by 1 vote, A is the popular vote. The margin and percentage are statistics but democracy is described as the government of the people, by the people and that's why the majority carries the day. That's why there is also a run-off in our elections. In the New York Mayoral vote, Cuomo is/was more popular than any other candidate but did he win? No. Even Trump's threat and support did not garner him enough votes. The young man, Mamdani won and everyone accepted it. The test of popularity was at the polls and today, he has finally met Trump despite all their tantrums. Trump did not go and cancel the election or cry rigging. Our own politicians don't like to lose. That's their problem with the electoral votes. You talked about Jonathan. Don't forget that before the results were announced, we had a saga at the collation center where some people did not want to accept the results but what did the President at the time do? He called to accept defeat even before final collation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm6-COC4S90 Election is not do or die like Obasanjo foisted on us and gracefully, Yar Adua the beneficiary accepted even though he benefited from the rigging. It's his (Yar Adua) reforms we are enjoying today.

SixSeven:That phrase is wrong, by definition of unpopular ... Most of the people at the elms of affair have being around power for over 20yrs therefore they are " popular" infact if you are said " old people" dont want to leave e for correct ... Atiku and Tinubu are popular do they want to give way for fresh people i.e the unpopular, the answer is No I dont think election is test of Popularity Becos at the end of the day " acceptances is what count., Buhari vs Atiku both are equally popular but acceptance is what makes one a winner .. sey you grab like i said my issh with you is choice of wrong, " unpopular" ... i share same mindset with you on other things you wrote |
