No one believed it, they just didn't like Buhari (May he rest in...peace) and his policies. After the jubilation that followed his death, the powers that be were shocked and came out in droves to say it was the people around him that drove such policies and not the man himself, which only increased the hate (surprise surprise).
Because wdym he changed the currency during his military era, still changed it in his last year in office as a civilian and you're telling me it's efelele (whatever that guy's name is) fault? Leftover people from his military rule could still remember their friends committing suicide because of his first money change. People actually died from the fallout of that money changing the second time around during the thick of the pandemic lockdown, then there was closing the borders, the fiasco with the dollar thing. If you talk too much, they'll carry you and leave bandits.
