It's totally possible to teach a chameleon to eat from a bowl, but it does call for some patience, staying consistent, and understanding how your chameleon naturally behaves. Chameleons are born hunters, you see. Out in the wild, they rely on seeing something move to know it's time to eat, which is why just putting food in a bowl might seem strange to them at first. But don't worry, with the right method, many chameleon owners have successfully gotten their pets eating from a dish.

First things first, pick out a tall bowl or cup that your chameleon can't climb out of. Pop a few live bugs inside so they can crawl around safely. The movement will catch your chameleon's eye and make it want to catch them with its tongue. Try to put the bowl at about eye level for your chameleon, maybe somewhere it usually hangs out or hunts. This helps it get used to the idea of eating from the bowl.

At the start, you might need to help your chameleon notice the bowl by hand-feeding one or two bugs right next to it. Eventually, your pet will figure out that the bowl is where the food is. Some chameleons catch on fast—maybe just a few days—while others might need a couple of weeks to get the hang of it.

Feeding from a bowl has some real perks: it stops bugs from escaping, makes it easier to give your chameleon supplements, and lets you keep a better eye on how much it's eating. Not every chameleon will jump right in, but most can learn with a bit of gentle persistence and some positive encouragement.

Why, when you don't want to trap it in the bowl?

How about one it can easily climb out of when its done eating?
