✨ When the Christmas Lights Come On, Our Voices Must Be Heard ✨ Tonight, Cross River State will switch on the Christmas trees, filling our streets with colour, warmth, and festive excitement. The Christmas lights represent hope, joy, and unity,a moment families and visitors look forward to every year. But as the lights shine over the city, hundreds of newly employed civil servants remain in deep distress. These workers were recruited purely on merit, completed all documentation properly, and even opened their current accounts as directed, believing that their salaries would follow immediately. They resumed work the very next day after receiving their appointment letters, as instructed, faithful, hopeful, and ready to serve. Yet, almost a year later, many have not been paid a single month. Workers recruited at the same time, such as accountants and procurement officers, have been paid already, while others are left behind. This selective salary payment has created frustration, hardship, and emotional exhaustion. Many now survive on borrowed money just to transport themselves to work. Some struggle to feed their families. Others are emotionally drained, but still show up every day because they believe in the system and in the leadership of Governor Bassey Edet Otu. Your Excellency, sir: 👉 Please order the immediate payment of our salaries and accumulated arrears. 👉 Please ensure all cadres are treated equally, no worker should be left behind. Governor Otu is known across the state as a listening leader,a fatherly figure with compassion and fairness. We believe strongly that if this message reaches him clearly, he will act swiftly. As the Christmas lights brighten Calabar tonight, may they also brighten the lives of the unpaid workers who have endured months of silent suffering. Let the season of celebration also become a season of justice. 📌 —The Voice for the newly employed Civil servants
