The appointments of Mahmood Yakub (Former INEC Chairman) and Reno Omokri (Former Adviser/Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan) as Ambassadors is raining criticisms on the President. Why the President should not be criticized: 1. The President was likely advised to select Mahmood Yakub as an Ambassador for his PROBLEM SOLVING skills. 2. The President was likely advised to select Reno Omokri for positive commentaries which shows good PUBLIC RELATIONS skills. THE DETAILS: Professor Mahmood Yakub in the 2023 elections, handled electoral matters and criticisms quite well with diplomacy. He constantly gave press briefings during the result announcement phase and showed leadership in that regard. In addition to his work as a former INEC Chairman, he holds a Professorship title with a wealth of knowledge that may be helpful for his new role. He possesses an easy going demeanor which is attractive for an Ambassador role. Reno Omokri held a government position which shows an evidence of experience for his new role. Omokri has actively approved some actions of the President particularly during the fuel subsidy period. His commentaries prove his ability to represent Nigeria in a positive way. The role of an Ambassador is to represent the interest of a country, communicate and foster relations - and both appointees have a blend of problem solving skill, good communication skill and overall - good presentation. The displeasure expressed by certain persons concerning the appointees is likely a combination of a political strategy to win political points and an irritation with a certain appointee's connection to the 2023 result declaration. What matters is the ability to do the job. |

The Nigerian Senate will and should approve his nomination on the basis of work-skills only - as long he hasn't violated any law, he is worthy of any nomination. Ekpeitut: |

kayjordan:I am not surprised here. You guys have dropped the ball so bad that you now accept mediocrity as a standard. Only recently Ezra co-founder of Paystack got terminated owing to tweets he made some 10 years ago. Let that sink in, perception is everything. Just pull up Reno's past tweets. |

Perception is Everything - his past comments may have sounded harsh, rude or indisciplined - his personality is bold and confident - the Advisers of the President know best. The sentiments of behavioural character is often ignored or shielded (common practice in Nigeria). It's believed that once he wears a new cap, his disposition will change - if he keeps up with the same undesired attitude, then he proves himself wrong and his critics right. Ekpeitut: |

All the appointees are good and qualified for the job. The reactions are purely political. |

Exactly as I mentioned. The selection process is mixture of different considerations for specific purposes and specific countries of appointments. trutharena: |

Absolutely! Righteous people can't fill up all political offices in the world. Looking for near perfect candidates, takes a lot of time and this very move of nominating new appointees is triggered by the current happenings in the country. HgAkpobomeEr: |

The appointments of Yakub and Omokri may not be in the best interest of the country. But they are both well deserved. Congratulations to them. |

I think Reno and Mahmood Yakubu will do just fine. You cannot be a diplomat without some level of controversy. |
