Hello everyone, I’m creating this thread for all participants of the ongoing TVET Initiative across Nigeria. I started my own training after receiving admission on September 24th, and classes fully began around mid/late October. While the programme itself has good intentions, many of us are facing serious challenges that are affecting attendance, morale, and practical learning. Here are some of the issues we’re experiencing at my centre: Instructors vs. Coordinators misunderstanding: There have been disagreements over payments and expectations, and this is affecting the flow of training. No starter-pack tools yet: We were promised tools/starter kits for the practical aspect, but over one month into training - and already in the practical phase -most centres haven’t received anything. Learners buying tools from their own pockets: Some trainees have had to buy their own tools just to continue practical classes, but the majority simply cannot afford it. Transport hardship: With the current economic situation, many learners depend on stipends or support to transport themselves, so coming every day without tools or support is becoming difficult. Attendance dropping: A lot of learners have stopped coming because the situation isn’t encouraging, and people are beginning to doubt whether the programme will fully deliver what was promised. This post is NOT to attack the programme, but to hear from others: Are other states or centres facing the same issues? Have any centres already received their tools/starter packs? Are instructors in your area being paid as expected? How is the quality of teaching and practical sessions? What improvements do you think are urgently needed? The goal is to gather real feedback so we can understand whether this is an isolated issue or a widespread problem. If you’re a participant in any state (Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Rivers, Enugu, Plateau, Ogun, etc.), please drop your experience below. Let’s share honestly so we can know how well the programme is functioning across the country. Thank you. |
