kokoA:Normal, intelligence work no be military work. Na Police work. First NSA in Nigeria was a Policeman. Gambo Jimeta. He built the office from scratch. First DG of the SSS (DSS) too na Policeman. Na Ribadu de make am look like say Police no fit handle that post. Someone who was called out by a retired General on Live TV when a whole General, former NYSC DG was kidnapped. Within 3 days, the kidnapped General was released. |

Tinubu needs to receive more letters of resignation from the small minister and the NSA as well. The same KPIs that apply to Badaru also affect Mutawalle and Ribadu. The new CDS ,CDI, IGP and DG DSS aren’t stars either. I don’t want to blindly believe this isn’t scapegoating of Badaru. I hope Gen. Musa becomes the Minister of Defence, or, in the worst case, the NSA. The Ministry of Defence should be handled by a retired military man, and the ONSA should be led by a retired military man, or a retired DSS/NIA personnel, or a retired police officer experienced in intelligence. We are joking in naija |

General Christopher Musa should hold the dual roles of both Defence Minister as well as the National Security Adviser, NSA.....due to his background in the Intelligence Corps. |

kokoA:You are making ignorant assumptions The very first NSA was a policeman The 3rd one which was under Abacha was there before Abacha took power till he died was a policeman So it raises questions what is the function of the NSA .? The truth is there is no clear constitutional role and it depends on what the Commander-in-Chief assigns Under Babangida when it started in 1990 its main role was regime protection which is different from state security Regime protection meaning coup Prevention In those days there was no mobile phone the same as today just a few . The special branch of the police were the ones able to monitor telephone communication and suspicious activity related to coup Babangida a seasoned coup plotter knew coups could not succeed if certain police intelligence officers were not compromised That appears to be Tinubu's thinking today the NSA is there to protect his regime However the idea that it must be a military person is wrong in the middle of the current Ukraine war putin changed the Defence Minister from a soldier to an economist. Why? Many good reasons which I won't go in to here A lecturer can be NSA e.g Condoleezza Rice. USA In Nigeria the NSA handles a very huge amount of cash often with no accountability Gwarzo was involved in looting the CBN for most of the so called Abacha loot Something similar with Dasuki These so called security votes require integrity more than military training |

Good governance in a democracy is about a trade in ideas not people. Institutions are built around ideas not people. When democratic nations have serious challenges you see them debate ideas about solving them. Here we believe so much more in the he individual that we have little to no collective capacity to solve things. The holy book says consider the ant....and all it's qualities. Even in feudal states, where monarchies reign the king consults a court of wise MEN. The UK has a deep illegal immigration crossing problem for as long as Nigeria had its steep insecurity problems. Governments have come and gone and all have traded in ideas of how to sort it out. Can the Nigerian government create a think tank to bash heads together from all parts of the country and all parts of the federating units and government agents to squeeze through a whole raft of ideas on how to solve this festering problem rather than depending on the capabilities of one single individual. Only that will bring to the light the real issues underneath, the real people behind it and put to bed a lot of misconceptions and suspicion about this fight against insecurity. |

Pieces moving around the chessboard, now this move looks very interesting. So Tinubu had to wait for Trump to make tough decisions; Tinubu himself has serious problems. |

A former military person as minister of defence is not necessarily good The job of the Minister is political He is the representative of voters So if a person abroad is sending money home to build a house the person he needs is one with integrity, maturity and street sense not necessarily an Engineer There is a lot of corruption in the military so whilst a soldier might be technical he might be biased, if he is from infantry, armoured corps, intelligence navy etc he might be biased in his perception or limited in ability to manage corruption especially if he was corrupt too Russia one of the largest military forces changed minister of defence from military to economist in the middle of the current war and there was dramatic improvement Integrity and ability to tackle corruption is very important. Tackling the welfare of troops and asking questions where the money is going You don't need to be ex military to do that Tackle corruption in the military Now another strategic question for ministers of defence Why can't we manufacture our own drones? How do we get there? Is the answer going to come from a general or a Gen Z So defence is not just about carrying guns you must make the guns and that means education ofthe next generation. They will be civilians by |

Antoeni:You were spot on. This appointment of General Musa who is from Southern Kaduna is the way to go. The Fula Ministers and Governors who have deliberately planted themselves in politics and the governance of the indigenous Hausa States have been protecting their foreign Fula militia kinsmen from prosecution for killing innocent folks of Indigenous Nigerian ethnic communities. Nasir El-Rufai arrogantly confessed on live TV that he paid millions of Nigerian money to foreign Fula militia bandits from Cameroon and other Sahelian countries of West Africa who attacked and killed the indigenous people of Southern Kaduna instead of getting the Interpol to arrest them. That is the same format used by Nasir El-Rufai that those Fula Governors of Hausa States are still using to grant highly irresponsible amnesties to these Fulas in Katsina, Zamfara and more. The confrontation in those Hausa States has to do with the resistance of the Hausa against the foreign Fula militia attacks. |
