Igirigimercenar:The OP deliberately avoided it to insult our sensitivities. More than 4 million Igbos killed and somehow, it is missing in the list.. smh |
| Re: Deadliest Genocides In History by naijacann: 10:56pm On Dec 01, 2025 |
buygala:You are ridiculous. The Igbos never sought for any war. It was brought upon them by Nigeria and they had to survive...and you are declaring it as an all out war? Smh. It was a full deliberate effort to exterminate the Igbos using all means including starvation: Genocide!!! |

naijacann:Who ever soughts for war...? Did the "Nigerians" sought war? No one deliberately sought to exterminate the igbos. Stop changing the narrative and change your mentality. It's a problem igbos keep having. It was war to keep Nigeria together and not to exterminate igbos. That's the difference between war and genocide. Genocide doesn't mean a large number of people were killed. War is war! |

brain54:America could say same for their Native Indians and say war is war when America actively carried our acts of genocide against them, esp under Andrew Jackson. Nigeria under Gowon declared war on Biafrans(read your history well). Igbos never sought out or declared any war against Nigeria. They just had to defend themselves and survive. In fact at Aburi, Ojukwu and others extracted all the peaceful concessions needed to avert a war, until Gowon came back and reneged because his side felt they had the upper hand. The Genocide against the Igbos have never been controversial. I am stunned at your revisionisms. I am not surprised though. They no longer teach history in Nigeria. |

naijacann:You are quite funny... What is new about the history of gowon declaring war on ojuckwu and Biafra. It was war to keep Nigeria together. Not to exterminate igbos. Maybe you should check the meaning of genocide. Use a dictionary. I'm appalled you know nothing about history and talking about teaching history in schools. Must igbos declare war before it is war? Wars are of different types according to what is being fought for. Are the Ukrainians that are being defensive against the Russians also being under genocide attacks from Russia? You Biafrans never fail to amaze me with your watery arguments! |

Igirigimercenar:Self inflicted stupidity doesn't count as genocide. Ojukwu weaponised your sufferings to gain global sympathy, support and a time out. Nothing of value was lost tho. |

buygala:How more biased can you be ? You are simply a bloody liar. Point of correction : 1. The Biafra -Nigeria Civil War was a genocide where over 3 million Biafrans were massacred by the Nigerian Federal Government Military Troops with the support of the Evil British Empire, USSR now Russia, and The United States who all has strategic interest in the abundant Crude oil Resources in the Biafran region. The war as you described IT WAS NEVER BETWEEN NIGERIA AND THE BIAFRANS. RATHER IT WAS 3 World Super Powers ( UK, RUSSIA , USA ) Combined together with the Nigeria Military to fight only the Biafrans. 2. The Biafrans never orchestrated any war. Ojukwu never lured the Biafran to War. The War was brought to the Biafrans ...and they had no other option than to defend their land . The war was brought to the Biafrans Shortly after some weeks that Biafra was peacefully and successfully created. Note: Before the creation of Biafra, There was a Round -Table meeting , where All the Federations units that made up Nigeria all agreed and gave their support for the Creation of Biafra. Biafra was also endorsed by all the African Countries at the Aburi Accord which held in Ghana. The 2 major party involved signed a peace accord in Accra , Ghana - The Federal Government of Nigeria, led by General Yakubu Gowon, and - The Biafra Leader , led by Lt. Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. (The Ike-Mba 1 of Nnewi ) 3. The Evil British empire brainwashed the Federal Government of Nigeria led by General Yakubu Gowon into launching an attack on the Biafrans .....out of their evil Desire to keep Nigeria united to protect her evil economic and political influence over Nigeria. And most importantly, their Fear that Biafra’s secession might encourage other breakaway states in Africa..and they would lose control over their colonies in Africa.. Role of Foreign Countries in the Biafran–Nigeria Genocide (1967–1970) 🇬🇧 United Kingdom (Britain) – Supported Nigeria Britain was Nigeria’s strongest international supporters. Why Britain supported Nigeria: Strategic interest in Nigerian oil, especially in the Niger Delta Desire to keep Nigeria united to protect its economic and political influence Fear that Biafra’s secession might encourage other breakaway states in Africa What Britain provided: Weapons, ammunition, and military advisors Diplomatic support in the UN Financial backing through continued oil operations --- 🇷🇺 Soviet Union (USSR) – Supported Nigeria Surprisingly, the Soviet Union joined Britain in supporting Nigeria, an unusual Cold War alignment. Why USSR supported Nigeria: To expand influence in Africa during the Cold War Nigeria’s large population and strategic relevance Desire to counteract Western (especially French) influence What they provided: Heavy weapons (MiG fighter jets, artillery, armored vehicles) Military technicians and training --- 🇺🇸 United States – Officially Neutral, Quietly Leaned Toward Nigeria The U.S. claimed neutrality but diplomatically leaned toward supporting a unified Nigeria. Why the U.S. held back: Fear of being seen as supporting secession Priority on keeping Nigeria stable as a major African nation Domestic political concerns during the Vietnam War The U.S. did not send major weapons. --- 🇫🇷 France – Supported Biafra (Indirectly) France was Biafra's strongest international ally. Why France supported Biafra: To weaken British influence in West Africa Humanitarian sympathy toward the Igbo Oil interests in the Niger Delta Fear of Soviet expansion in Nigeria What France provided: Weapons (usually through third parties like Ivory Coast) Diplomatic pressure on behalf of Biafra Support for Biafran propaganda in Europe Portugal – Supported Biafra Portugal controlled São Tomé and Príncipe (then a colony), which were used as air bases. How Portugal helped: Allowed Biafran relief and arms flights from São Tomé Offered diplomatic support Provided a route for foreign journalists to cover the war Summary of Alignments Pro-Nigeria 🇬🇧 Britain 🇷🇺 Soviet Union 🇪🇬 Egypt 🇺🇸 United States (unofficially) Pro-Biafra 🇫🇷 France 🇵🇹 Portugal 🇨🇮 Ivory Coast 🇬🇦 Gabon 🇿🇦 South Africa (indirectly) In summary, the war has nothing to do with Ojukwu, it was simply a genocide masterminded by the Western Forces to destabilize Nigeria and Control The Crude oil Resources in the Biafran Region. So next time, don't use your tribal biased mindset in discussing History. ...it makes you look so unreasonable. |

DrMB:16. The Biafran Genocide (1967-1970) Over 3 Million Biafrans were massacred, mostly the Igbos by the Nigerian Federal Government Military Troops with the support of the 3 World Powers (UK, RUSSIA and US) due to their strategic interest in the Crude Oil resources in the Biafran Region .....now known today as Niger- Delta Region and South Eastern Region of Nigeria.. |
