Damaged marine boards can be utilized, depending on the severity, and location of the damages, for various applications such as; concrete formwork, secondary furniture projects, or interior paneling, where full structural integrity or aesthetic perfection is not required. The key is to assess the damages and apply appropriate repairs, or sealants.

Assessment and Use Guidelines

Minor Damage (scratches, small chips): Boards with minor cosmetic damages can be used in applications where appearance is less critical, such as:
Subflooring or Underlayment: As a moisture-resistant layer beneath the primary flooring.
Concrete Formwork: The boards are known for their high reusability in molding concrete, and minor flaws won't typically affect the outcome of the cast concrete.
Hidden Structural Elements: Use in areas that will be covered, or out of sight in a building project.
Moderate Damage (larger chips, some delamination at edges): These require repair before use to prevent further deterioration, especially if exposed to moisture.
Sealing and Repair: The damaged areas should be properly cleaned, filled with a waterproof filler, and then sealed with a suitable marine-grade sealant or waterproof membrane, to prevent water ingress and further damage.
Furniture Making: Can be cut down to use the undamaged sections for cabinets, shelves, or other furniture where the exposed edges can be sealed or covered.
Severe Damage (significant rot, major delamination, structural cracks): Severely compromised boards should not be used in critical structural applications where strength is essential, such as primary decking or boat building, as their integrity is compromised.
Non-Structural Use: Suitable for small, non-load-bearing projects like temporary signs, small storage boxes, or cutting up for smaller pieces in craft projects.
Disposal: Boards with signs of rot should ideally be disposed of properly to avoid spreading fungal or moisture issues.

Should an engineer's fee include supervision of block work, lintel, and columns, or is it usually separate??

What exactly is the Engineer coming to do at your site if not to supervise the artisans and ensure they are doing the right thing?

What has caused the rift between you both and what are your various positions? Shed some light so that we can advise you better

Someone reached out today to commend the 5-unit self-contain project we started months ago. He said he was just walking past when he saw the work and admired it; because the planning showed sense, experience, and a proper understanding of the terrain. 😇👷🏽‍♂️
And guess what? We handled the entire foundation when the land was still soft during the rainy season. We excavated the hill side, used it to backfill, and stabilised the structure despite one side being a natural water path and the other sitting on a slope.
Now that everything is opening up in the dry season, people can clearly see the value of the strategic work we did months ago.
We’re resuming very soon to complete the building and properly channel the water path into the gutter for long-term drainage control.

Not at all sir. The other shots were taken from the hillside.
This picture was taken before the strap beam and the internal beams that tie the entire substructure together were installed.
Those beams are what lock the foundation, distribute the load properly, and stabilize the structure while it rests on the naturally compacted earth filling. I shown earlier. The thread is on my page. Feel free to check and comment.

This looks like a case of mould infestation.

A cost effective way of treating this is washing the floor with diluted chlorine solutions.

JIK or other similar chlorine solutions will work. A pure Mould Remover will be too expensive to treat this mass/quantity of mould infestation.

Pressure washing with mold bleach will take care of that floor and leave it sparkling like new. But they will have to use circular rotary brush head.
It’s very easy to do.
I don’t why people are not offering this service much, considering that a lot of people have concrete floor that need cleaning.

We have painted similar floors before. They would have to wash it with a sterilizing solution first before painting.
The main cause is water staying long enough on porous surface for algae to grow.

As long as the installation and underlay are top quality, you’ll enjoy both beauty and durability for decades. 👌🏾

Funny enough, these days stone-coated tiles are actually cheaper than aluminium longspan…
The only thing is; they gulp a lot more wood during installation because of the batten system.

So while the sheet price is friendly, you have to budget for the extra woods compare to aluminium roofing sheet.
Everything has its balance. 😉

I am not sure it is accurate to say that stone-coated tiles is cheaper than aluminium long-span. Remember that the 2 units that is sold for stone-coated tiles as a square-meter is not up to a square-meter for the aluminium long-span. So, if you factor in the short-fall, you may land at same price with the long-span.

But a major advantage i see for the stone-coated is that it offers more safety and balance when installing solar panels because of the extensive wood it requires.
