Former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2026 governorship election would not emerge through a consensus arrangement.

Omisore, who is one of the aspirants for the APC governorship ticket, made the declaration on Monday while addressing journalists after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

The APC has scheduled December 13 for the party’s primary to pick its candidate.

Omisore argued that with nine aspirants already in the race, the Electoral Act makes recourse to a consensus arrangement impossible.

He said: “As of today, we have nine aspirants. Consensus is not on the table. Whoever emerges through the set process becomes the party’s candidate.”

The immediate national secretary of the party, who is from Osun East Senatorial District, also dismissed speculation that the APC leadership have settled for a certain aspirant from Osun West.

He maintained that “every zone in the state has produced a governor.

“Osun has never been governed based on zoning. Every zone has had its turn. These speculations are social media stunts.”

not true here. Omisore should forget the governorship race for now. A vibrant candidate has been picked from Osun west senatorial district. Ambo will be picked and wins the August 8th governorship election.

Omisore will never move to any party. He understands the game better. He only wants free, credible and fair primary election. Omisore is much in APC and not leaving APC. He won't be chose in the next week Saturday primary election.

we love Omisore, but he's coming out at the wrong time to contest the governorship election here. Osun west senatorial district must finished their 8 years tenure. Adeleke that's there is only completing his 4 years tenure. So an APC candidate will finished the next 4 years, also the APC candidate will come from Osun west senatorial district where Adeleke jailed from. Omisore coming out wrongly, he should wait for another 4 years.

Is that a primary point or a statement of fact? APC will be walking on a slippery slope if they fail to conduct a free and fair primary election in Osun state. This is just a glimpse of what will happen in most of the states with all these defections that are currently being celebrated. The losers will revolt and work against the party, even if they don't all decamp. Best case scenario, they will be indifferent in campaigning for the winner.

But all these politicians always tend to suspend reason and logic when it comes to things like this except when it favours them.
