There are alot of technicalities here, I am not a lawyer but from what I have heard, it seems Sharia Law is integrated in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, so therefore any attempt to remove or abolish it will mean an assault on the territorial and constitutional rights of the country. However, some questions are left unanswered, if Nigeria is a Secular state consisting of Christians and Muslims, how come it has two constitutions, One for Muslims in the Northernmost part of the country, and another for Christians and Muslims living in Nigeria as a whole? What is the solution to this dilemma? There are three solutions in my view; 1. General consensus by all Nigerians to operate on a single constitution and wipe out sharia law. Let's have just one constitution for all men since Nigeria is a Secular state. 2. Let the South Eastern(SE, SS and Edo) part of Nigeria which is 99.9% Christian become an autonomous region. Still part of Nigeria but governed by a different set of law based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. 3. Let the union called Nigeria be either dissolved and everyone go their separate ways, divided based on ethnic and/or religious lines, or amend the constitution and take us back to Regional system of government. You often hear religious and political leaders from the north referencing the fact that Niger Delta militants where rehabilitated and reintegrated, it almost sounds like Jealousy because they want the same treatment given to the militants to also be given to the Jihadists which the government has agreed to. The government is paying them salaries(according to formal Kaduna State governor) and rehabilitating and recruiting them into tge army, sponsoring their education and foreign trips to Hajj. So common sense should also prevail on the issue of sharia law, you can keep your sharia law, but Christians should also be afforded the same privilege to have their own constitution in their own geographical areas of dominace. Anything outside this, with the current fragile climate is tantamount to partiality which can lead to misunderstanding and prolonged conflicts and loss of lives. |

Sharia law shouldn't even have been there in the first place... So yes. It should be abolished. However, this isn't the right time to do it. The country is too heated for now. Not contradicting myself but this might also be the best time to abolish it. Depends on how one wants to look at it. But one thing is certain, Sharia law should be abolished whether now or in the future! |

If the North want One Nigeria, they should accept abrogation of Sharia law. All those prosecuted under sharia should be compensated. |

TRUE FEDRALISM is the only way, Us states still control exploration, drilling, permits, and royalties for oil and gas found in their territories. Gambling is allowed in certain states and not in other states. You can't stay in your parasitic north and create your own laws, but when it comes to crude oil in south you expect an owambe party, and do bambiala. With these settings Nigeria can never work. |

Sharia law created bokoharam and creates the almajiris recruits of bokoharam, bokoharam created different factions, that are kidnapping, raping children and killing across Nigeria today. sharia is modern day slavery and has destroyed the north, but will bury it, if continued. Southern Nigeria must allow the north reap what it sow alone. We must secure our borders with the north, remove almajiris back to the north and remove all those scrap boys and metal thieves from the north in the south...they are spies and infiltrators. |

dederocs:The way you guys reason sometimes baffles me. Even if there will be any division in terms of territory e.g biafra or separate Christian republic or constitution amendment, I would suggest every one remains where they are, borders can be secured without necessarily repatriation anyone. We can still live like brothers regardless. |

melechpilusof:A brother that will kill you... nothing like brothers, northerners like bandits a d terrorists, we have seen how they protested against America for wanting to come help us, we have seen how their political class give billions to bandits and territorists, we have seen how their women speak for bandits. Please we are not brothers only forced together by British. Lugard the pirate will.never know peace for joining humans and beasts together. |

melechpilusof:You are speaking based off your little interests. Don't be selfish, why do you have kids, if you don't want to protect their future from jihadists terrorists and kidnappers? What I am talking about, is security of southern Nigeria, with the current killings that have been described as genocide, Nigeria risks a brutal civil war if this continues, unless the governors Nd people of the south take good security measures, to eradicate jihadists terrorists kidnappers from our forests, before the southern people get angry. You are sounding naive and uninformed about the situation. Some of you are weak links. |
| Re: SHARIA LAW: Should It Be Abolished? by melechpilusof(op): 7:53am On Dec 04, 2025 |
dederocs:On the contrary, I am very much aware of the situation on ground and having survived several suicide bombings I believe I have more authority to speak on these matters than you. I see you as a person living in fear and is too uptight. Not all Muslims subscribe to jihadi ideology, especially if they exposed and educated. It is very rare to see an educated Muslim subscribing to Jihadi ideas. You have to be good at reading people to notice it but how can you know when you haven't traveled? Listen, a large percentage of Muslims are following the religion out of fear, they don't like to be Muslims but at the same time they can't leave because it is like a cult, if you leave they will hunt you down and kill you. So don't come here trying to teach me something when you should be learning from me. |
| Re: SHARIA LAW: Should It Be Abolished? by dederocs(m): 8:11am On Dec 04, 2025 |
melechpilusof:You don't have any authority to speak on it than me because you nearly died, you are just a victim. Like I said earlier, you are only speaking from your point of interest, living there, perhaps with a business there, but the bigger picture matters more. People like you are fighting for the survival of their heritage, you are thinking of your little interests. Very selfish and mediocre. |

Sharia law is the authentic law of the Almighty God that governs mankind. If you are a Christian, then you should uphold what was revealed to you from your lord just like Muslims. If Christ actually said that he did not come to abolish the law of Moses and the prophets, then I do not see reason why Christians should not uphold this divine law of God. As for me and my household, we shall obey the law of God |

| Re: SHARIA LAW: Should It Be Abolished? by brain54(m): 9:48am On Dec 04, 2025 |
melechpilusof:Common sense should tell that you can't solve all the problems at once... Some require a systematic and careful approach and not a confrontational approach. Nobody kills a mosquito hanging on a mosquito net the same way or method as the one that perched on the scrotum. If someone says this is not the right time it doesn't mean opposition to reason. It's only a thin line that separates cowardice and stupidity. Sharia law much as it should be abolished isn't the most pressing problem situation bedeviling the country at the moment. A careful approach should be taken in dealing with it. It's not by feeling brave one morning after taking ogogoro! |

brain54:So what is the most pressing problem now? |
| Re: SHARIA LAW: Should It Be Abolished? by brain54(m): 11:40am On Dec 04, 2025 |
melechpilusof:A lot of things are pressing at the moment... Insecurity, economy, health care, education, power generation( electricity) brain drain ( look at the number of Nigerian youths japaing to other countries daily. You think these are not bigger issues and more pressing issues to address than Sharia? There are so many pressing issues to address and Sharia isn't one of them. They are more pressing issues to sort and solve than people who have deliberately choosen to suppress themselves with outdated, archaic and myopic laws in a world that is moving at a fast rate of development. Abolishing Sharia is a tricky matter that requires a systematic approach and not a direct or confrontational approach. Education of northerns and elimination of poverty in the north for example is a good starting point. Waking up one morning and declaring the abolishing of shari'a just like Papa seyi did with removal of subsidy with no plans or cushioning arrangements would only cause more harm than the purpose for which it intends to achieve. As the elders would say they is a way to lick hot soup or eat hot yam. It isn't rushed. And I know your likely set of response or questions and Sharia is not a direct cause of insecurity situation in the country. I hope I answered that question in advance! |
| Re: SHARIA LAW: Should It Be Abolished? by melechpilusof(op): 1:38pm On Dec 04, 2025 |
brain54:At the core of it all, the underlying problem is still boils down to Sharia and the posture of the North in Nigeria. Disregard for rule of law too. |
