Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called for calm following a demonstration by Asaba indigenes over rumours that the proposed Anioma State capital could be relocated.

Addressing the protesters at Government House, the Governor stressed that the creation of a new state and its capital follow strict constitutional processes and the collective will of the people.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Chief of Staff Hon. Johnson Erijo praised the peaceful demonstration as a sign of community unity.

Governor Oborevwori assured that no individual or group can unilaterally decide the capital, and that legislative deliberations and possibly a referendum will guide all decisions.

Spokesperson for the Asaba community, Mr. Chike Ifesiokwu, thanked the Governor for engaging the community and reiterated Asaba’s commitment to peaceful dialogue.

I am from Asaba,forget the political hirings,we want an igbo state added to the South East,Asaba at its present state is more igbo than some igbo states. My cousins are all over Onitsha and its environs but the political demarcation placed us in delta state. The feelings on ground,is that we want igbo state and join us with our brothers in south east.
We will still have other of our brothers in south south.
