‎Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu has been accused of diverting part of a ransom meant to secure the release of family relatives.

‎The claim was made by @Abdulganiyu0se1, a user on the micro‑blogging platform, X (formerly Twitter).

‎Details Of The Claim

‎According to the X user, @Abdulganiyu0se1, Harrison Gwamnishu received a ₦20 million ransom and an additional ₦50,000.

‎The X user accused the human rights activist of stealing part of the ransom meant to secure his sister and her husband from captivity.

‎Harrison Gwamnishu Breaks Silence On X User’s Claim

In a lengthy Facebook post, Harrison Gwamnishu responded to the X user’s accusation, stating that he remained silent to protect the safety of the man who is still in captivity.

“The only reason I am staying silent is because of the safety of the man still in captivity. But since the family who are supposed to protect their brother are accusing me falsely, is it not better i drop all that happened including our initial plans for posterity sake”, He stated in the post.

According to the activist, he called on investigative journalists to obtain facts and gain a detailed understanding of the incident.

In his post, Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed that Edo State government representatives are aware.

They praise you when you succeed and crucify you when a mission doesn’t go as planned. The kidnappers are now celebrating because they’ve realized I was invited to help track them down.

I was in Edo State solely to assist. I remember His Excellency asking, “How much do you want?” and I replied, “Sir, I don’t want payment, just the opportunity to test what we have.” The CSO, COS was there. I would have told him, give me 100 million naira. It wasn't about money.

No matter how they try to weaken me or push me to expose operational methods, Harrison will never do that but will continue to collaborate with the Military, Police and Local Vigilantes to curb insecurity.

The X user, @Abdulganiyu0se1, really messed up the whole thing. Many Nigerians still don't know when to keep mute, not everything should be put on public media. There is a time and season for everything. He should have allowed Harrison Gwamnishu to get the man out first, then meet him in person to ask him how come he didn't pay the whole ransom.

The first day I saw the video of the victim in captivity of the kidnappers, the first thing that comes my mind is, how will a reasonable Nigerian living in Nigeria upload a luxury/lavish wedding party video/photos on the internet in Nigeria of today...

The Nigeria police have warned us many times, stop flaunting your wins on the internet. The kidnappers are living among us. Stay low key and don't put yourself in trouble over likes and shares and comments.

I don't know why you stylishly bring Tinubu's name into this. I don't know if his supporters are behind the crime or you just want to rant as usual.

Make them release/rescue the victims first. They can settle the matter later.

This situation bears a striking resemblance to the trajectory of Segalink between 2018 and 2021.
He gained prominence by presenting himself as an activist and lawyer capable of helping civilians arrested by the Nigerian Police/SARS.
However, Segalink was eventually exposed as a government operative, specifically, an aide who was allegedly the handler of the official Nigerian Police Force (NPF) Twitter account and a Special Assistant (SA) to the Minister of Police Affairs.

Since then, he has abandoned the Nigerian social media space.


Considering the allegations against Harrison, I believe he is likely guilty of the offenses being attributed to him.

In my view, he should be subjected to a rigorous investigation ("held by the brokos" until the full truth is revealed.

I hold a strong conviction that there are very few altruistic activists in Nigeria.

Ultimately, they are almost always revealed to be motivated by self-serving interests, be it political favor, fame, or financial gain.

This pattern has been observed in public figures ranging from former activists turned politicians, such as Oshiomole and Keyamo, to other controversial figures like VDM, Segalink, and now this latest individual, Harrison.
