When CBN under Emefeli introduced cashless policy to make it impossible to see physical cash of this size anywhere to demand for or pay ransom with it, Nigerians were stupidly misled to resist it. This is the effect of having a cash based economy, criminals thrive because there is no way to trace them. We cannot implement sound security measures without prohibiting cash payment above #1000. In the new arrangement, if you have any transaction with anybody for any amount above #1k, it must be by transfer whether USSD or card or Internet banking to leave a traceable digital footprint.

I'm happy you made that statement I highlighted, at least it confirms that there are more people who realize that the recent escalation in kidnap incidents in Nigeria is the work of opposition politicians.

I blame the APC for using violence via bomb blasts to create fear which helped them defeat Jonathan in 2014 so they must take part of the blame but people should not pretend that kidnapping started in Nigeria recently

I've always stated that politicians do not have the true interest of common Nigerians at heart. Whether APC, PDP, etc. During Jonathan's time, what we went through wasore than bombings... remember Chibok, BH killings and all the horror! Now that Jonathan left office, are we better?

My theory is this. Politicians may have started this but it has gone far beyond their control. I doubt they are still loyal to anyone....the terrorists now have a kind of their own and they won't mind attack, kidnapping, killing anyone..m whether PDP or APC or any other party. I may be wrong though.

It's just a horrible situation we've got here!

If there was police in the domain he operates he will find it extremely hard to move around unidentified and undetected.

And with identification comes the latent question any half decent lawman will ask his neighbours, namely: 'what does that man do for a living'.

A good number of criminals are caught this way in organized societies.

Look, law enforcement in Nigeria is too far from the people they serve. Our present structure owes it's order to colonial rule. A response army of suppressors and order, not fit to effect the kind of intelligence led preemptive policing at the grassroots.

The closest checkpoint or police patrol to that man is probably tens of kilometres away, if not hundreds.

Yes, but people still queued up to vote these folks so the problem is not entirely leadership but a dearth of ideas and intelligence in Nigerians generally coupled with a lack of patriotism.

In other climes it is the people who tell government how to do things because there is more intelligence and capacity in the citizenry than in government everywhere in the world. It is the people who set government agenda. And then they find the politician that can deliver it. That is how democracy works.

Here we have exchanged think tanks for ethnic and religious conflicting. We have very poor national cohesion to solve national problems.
