That men do not learn from history is the greatest lesson of history. The above is one of my favorite quotes of all time. But I used to think that quote was referring to a distant history, I never knew some section of Nigerians would forget something as recent as 2015. I just saw a post where a social media commentator suggested that anyone who refuses to join the ADC coalition against Tinubu is automatically working for Tinubu. We don’t need to think too much to know that he is referring to Peter Obi. But is Peter Obi wrong in his stance? In 2015, we had a Jonathan who was growing our economy at the rate of 7.1%. Nigeria was the third fastest growing economy in the world. Our elections were beginning to look sane where votes counted. Every ministry and sector was manned by a cerebral appointee who knew what s/he was doing. Then came the APC. They demonized Jonathan and told us that economy growing at 7.1% is useless because it’s only on paper because it doesn’t impact the common man. They promised us change and swore they would defeat the beast called insurgency. To do this, they resurrected a relic called Buhari who had told the world he was retiring from politics, and whose first sojourn into our national life as Head of State was a disaster coupled with several allegations of human rights violations and ethnic and religious bigotry and fundamentalism. But APC swore he was now a “reformed democrat”. They even dressed him in suit for the cameras (that was the last time). Majority of Nigerians fell for it and voted Buhari because the mantra was “anything but Jonathan”. I’m sure by “anything”, Nigerians were ready to vote for even a stone as president or even the devil. Well, we all lived to see the result of the choice we made in 2015 and everybody agrees it was a disaster. Today Jonathan is worshipped as a hero, not because he called Buhari to concede but because Nigerians have realized how stupid they were to have swallowed APC’s propaganda and voted him out. Now, after Buhari’s 8 years of backwardness, he passed the torch to his ally, Tinubu, who has proven to be even a more disastrous disaster. Then, as the 2027 elections approach, people like Henry Shield want us to repeat our “anything but Jonathan” mistake in 2015 by chanting “anything but Tinubu” and then rallying round an Atiku to succeed Tinubu just so Tinubu is out of power. But is that the only choice left for us? From his antecedents, how is an Atiku better than a Tinubu? Or he, like 2015 Buhari, is now a reformed incorruptible saint who will no longer sell national assets to his cronies? Like seriously, what do we stand to gain differently from an Atiku presidency if not the perpetuity of northern hegemony and born-to-rule mentality which Tinubu is ferociously degrading and they are looking for an escape route? In a nutshell, my point is that we have all Tinubu must go because although he has gotten it right with the economy through fuel subsidy removal, unification of exchange rate and the tax law, government excessive spending still pervades. Insecurity has worsened. He is borrowing away our future and that of our children. Our elections have become a joke. And he has preferred to enable touts, like Okpebholo, to power rather than sane minds who would work for the people. But if we must replace Tinubu, who we are replacing him with must be very important lest “we go into the hands of those whose curative hands are deadlier than our current disease” like Wole Soyinka put it in his 2015 article against Buhari candidacy. Atiku is not our only option going into 2027. And if our mistake of 2015 has taught us any lesson, then we must not allow another chant of “anything but Tinubu” lead us into another disaster. It’s better we suffer another 4 years of Tinubu than give a whole new 8 years mandate to someone with no clear difference with Tinubu. Penguin is a bird of reason! Nlfpmod Mynd44 Fergie001 |

Oga, there's no free ticket in the ADC. Feel free to vote Tinubu or, better still, let Obi go to ZLP. It is also strategic for him to contest independently. Obi is even yet to join the ADC formally even though he has said severally that he's with the coalition. Obi doesn't deserve the ticket more than an Amaechi, for instance, who's willing to contest the party primaries. Give it a rest. The Southeast cannot propel themselves into power without playing the long game. Tinubu did the same after several years in opposition and was even scheming to become a Vice to Buhari in 2015 but for muslim-muslim. He ended up nominating a VP and today, he's president and a Northerner is his Vice with power set to return back to the North in 2027 or 2031. That's politics but you can choose not to play. The ball is in your court. Obi is not an angel. There are no angels in politics but Nigerians deserve the barest minimum, nonetheless and he's still better than most, but certainly not the best. |

AMINDA:Why are you triggered by my admonition that we should not repeat our 2015 mistake? Has anybody ever doubted Atiku’s capacity to win primaries? No. But our contention is does he have the capacity to be a complete departure from what we currently have with Tinubu? Will an Atiku government stop corruption? Stop government waste? Reform our elections? Etc etc. If your answer to the above questions is yes, then show us Atiku’s antecedent that points to him possessing those capabilities. And lastly, when would Atiku ever respect the zoning that he and his cronies used as the excuse to defect from PDP into APC in 2015? When? |
| Re: 2027 Coalition: Do You Remember “Anything But Jonathan”? by AMINDA: 9:18am On Dec 06, 2025 |
Penguin2:No need for too much talk. Obi is not even an ADC member, I would have admonished him to decamp. He can't be making demands on a party that he isn't a member of. Why not show Obi's antecedents on all these metrics you highlighted above during his sojourn as Anambra state governor? Zoning was a PDP arrangement. It is not an ADC arrangement, the party has thrown its ticket open. It's a coalition. Feel free to follow Obi to the ZLP. Aregbesola is building his party in the SW. Amaechi is doing same in his constituency. Atiku, Elrufai, Malami, etc are doing the same in their regions. Obi is demanding for the party ticket. Jokes. |

AMINDA:Lol! You know why ADC has lost momentum and traction? Because Obi has not joined. You know, Atiku knows, Aregbesola knows, Amaechi knows, and Nigerians know that the only person who can give life to the ADC thing is Peter Obi. But you can decide to continue to lie to yourself. |
| Re: 2027 Coalition: Do You Remember “Anything But Jonathan”? by AMINDA: 10:41am On Dec 06, 2025 |
Penguin2:He supported ADC in the Anambra gubernatorial elections yet we all saw the numbers both for ADC and LP. Don't confuse online noise and likes with substance. The ADC will be the only credible alternative come 2027. Obi is free to test that theory by go giving life to the ZLP or any other party. Online Obidients are already doing the permutations of states he will win in a landslide. Sarah Yusuf and Tanko Yunusa are his political strategists. His lethargy and indecision is costing him supporters on a daily. Even Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor has naturally gravitated towards Aregbesola as his leader. Obi only got his 2023 numbers because virtually all Christians voted for him while the Muslims splitted their votes between Tinubu, Atiku and Kwankwaso. Numbers don't lie. Atiku has barely lost a single voter, but he has certainly gained more from those who previously voted Tinubu in the North. It's hard to say the same of Obi. He has lost some ground in the SW, SS and even NC. Don't think as many people that did in 2023 will go queue up to vote him again in 2027 just to prove a point, when they know he cannot win on his own.

Why are you people always mischievous like this. The same GEJ you people claimed to have developed Nigeria economy, the rumor about his returning have been something same you people have been frowning about because of Peter Obi with no tangible past achievements. You people can't be changing narration as how you like |

It's only God that can stop president Tinubu's reelection. I can bet anything on that And also for clarification, 2027 election will be more credible than 2023 election, I can also assure on that. Nigerians can't be thinking of replacement for president Tinubu and be mentioning either Peter Obi or Atiku. That's backwardness |

This nation only have the irreparable chance of starting to get it right from ensuring that these current demons in govt are boot out. Anything short of that, Nigeria will never survive the onslaught |

I am from the BETTER SOUTH and I stand completely with you. Rotimi Amaechi won't get the support needed in the SOUTH. Peter Obi should deputize Atiku and see how RONU bandits will run amok. Wike Uzodinmma Remi Tinubu ...are the key people running the affairs of this rudderless Enterprise. I don't even care if power is returned to the North. All I want is TINUBU to be removed from that seat. He breeds dirty orientation for criminals to have access to Power. The North should exert itself. AMINDA: |

Penguin2:The greatest political mistake Peter Obi will ever make is not aligning with Atiku and the coalition party. Nigeria is not an ideal nation where doing the right thing works. Nigeria is a country where doing the wrong thing brings you the expected result. Peter Obi must swallow his Presidential ambition and align with Atiku and the opposition coalition party to give Tinubu a run. Nigeria's federal politics is for winner takes it all as proven to us by Buhari and Tinubu, and it doesn't matte how you get to the Presidency. Tinubu knew Buhari was the worst choice but he led Yorubas to align with Buhari and the North in order to oust Jonathan and to fulfill his Presidential ambition and also fulfill Yoruba people's ambition to grab power for their regional development. We Igbos must learn from them since they always mock us that we don't know how to play politics of building bridge. We must not always want to do the right thing because doing the right things in Nigeria has never helped the Igbos politically in Nigeria so let us do what others always do. I still believe that Peter Obi won 2023 Presidential election and they failed to declare him winner, so Peter Obi contesting again this time against a politically ruthless incumbent President will be a waste of time because even if he wins landslide, he won't be declared winner by INEC just like 2023, so for the sake of the Igbos who have suffered enough in the hands of APC, Tinubu and his people, Peter Obi must join Atiku and the coalition party to make a strong attempt to defeat Tinubu if not, we Igbos will never forgive him. For now, we don't care who will be better President between Tinubu and Atiku because it's even obvious that Atiku will make a better President than Tinubu, at least Atiku won't be as nepotistic and bias against Igbos like Tinubu and his government plus APC. |

helinues:When did Yorubas ever won Igbos in federal politics? 2015 that Tinubu used backstabbing of his southern brother Goodluck Jonathan to launch himself and Yoruba into a recent political gain? Check history of Nigeria before 2015, any Presidential candidate Igbo backed always emerged winner, go back and study history. And that is why we well meaning young Igbos are begging Peter Obi not to make the mistake that you Yorubas and Tinubu supporters wants him to make by contesting alone or not aligning with Atiku. The moment Peter Obi aligns with Atiku, Tinubu should pack his tribalism loads out of Aso Rock asap ![]() |

Justiceleague1:Apologies. I was reacting to something someone else said in another thread. 2027 should be about a substainable, transparent and equitable alliance that can unseat the incumbent. It will be a partnership and a true handshake across the Niger. Atiku/Obi alliance in 2019 pulled 11 million votes and that was against Buhari whom we all know was more of a cult-figure in the North. Tinubu is not Buhari, hence why his own strategy is to scuttle opposition via shady means. Tinubu only got 8.6m votes and 5.3m of those votes were from the North, as payback. The North pays its debts, good or bad. He can and will be defeated. An alliance with the East will ensure the elections are over by 12noon. But the ADC should not be held to ransom by any quarters while taking out its momentum others are building. |

franchasng:Only NC people have the bragging right of supporting accurately in Nigeria election. South East support or not support don't make any different in Nigeria election as their votes can't make things up. NC and SW have been the two regions getting their support right SW might not support OBJ's first term election but they supported his reelection GEJ first term, SW supported him but they didn't in 2019. Buhari 8 years and now president Tinubu South East votes or support have never won any presidential candidate any election nor make them lose. It's inconsequential in the grand scheme of votes Small yansh shouldn't be shaking as nothing to stare at |
