Undergrad Uni Opinion by myaccountig(op): 2:08pm On Dec 06, 2025
Hi everyone

Hope y'all doing good

So I'm looking for a country to study in as an undergrad for either computer science or mechanical engineering
So I'm open to al countries in Europe and Canada but not the US.

About funds
I don't have anyone who's willing to fund me, so I'm hoping ok getting a full scholarship ..

And I don't plan on learning a language for the program
I would love it to be taught in English
But when I get to the country I can learn their language.

As of now my only qualification is my Waec
And sat(1240. R&W -540, Math- 700) and I don't think that would be useful since my destination isn't the US for now.

As for my Waec:
Eng B3
Math A1
Phy A1
Chem C5
Further math -A1
Biology C4
Geography B3
It's quite low for what I want id appreciate your honest opinions

If any one has a suggestion, an option for me or anything you feel I should know about
Pls help me , I'll look into it and weigh my options
I'd appreciate it

go and write jamb and stop chasing shadows. Why do you think you deserve or qualify for full undergraduate scholarship with these scores in a competitive course like this

I don't want to be harsh because I was once as young as you are, but I was never as blindly optimistic and somewhat ignorant as you are.

The issue is your WASSCE results, as your SAT is pretty good. English taught programs at the undergraduate level are few and highly competitive in Europe, so your decision not to study in the native language already puts you at a disadvantage compared to your competitors. You should consider Eastern European countries, but note that scholarships will be highly competitive, as you are primarily interested in English-taught programs. An alternative will be to learn Spanish (easier for an English speaker to learn than most Eastern/Northern European languages) and target Chilean/Argentinian universities. If you could learn Portuguese, target Brazil. Those are the places your SAT scores can entice admission officers as you are competing against other Africans, Chinese and Indians to get a foot into Europe. Singapore/Malaysia offer English taught programs, but your WASSCE grades is the problem.

The best alternative is to target top private universities in Nigeria: obtain a first class and gun for scholarships/sponsorships into Anglophone countries, or anywhere else full funding comes through. Scholarships at the undergraduate level are always competitive.

BTW, to maximise your chances, opt for Mathematics or Physics rather than Computer Science and Mech Engr.

Chilean universities are expensive and to get into a Chilean university for undergraduate studies you have to take the PAES which is the equivalent of jamb here in Chile and chemical engineering is one of the most competitive courses up there with medicine and mining engineering. Also Brazil has a similar entrance exam for their universities.

OP is interested in Comp Sci or Mech Engr. His chances are higher with Maths or Physics. The math score on his SAT is almost perfect!

Private uni in Nigeria (good ones) is the best option.

i advise you to to do your undergrad here then japa for your masters which will be easy. just go and write jamb instead of hoping on a fairytale. before you enter school, try and learn skill.

remove CS from your mind as the tech market is on frying pan . Mechanical engineering is okay, anticipate lots of drawings and calcuations.

Thank you so much ,Sir, for your advice .
I feel that's the best thing do after thinking about it.

I had 2 options before
1 was to do jupeb and just continue over here and go for my master's later on
2 write jamb next year , but I was also thinking while doing that I can also look for schools over there If can get a good offer (probably by luck or something) since there's still Alot of time.

Thank you sir
I really appreciate

That was why I lost all hope about schooling here
The competition is crazy and the pay isn't encouraging
The imagination of starting a life here seems like a nightmare

After reading all the comments on I also think that's the best option
I already did that . I Learned some tech skills

I was once on a group where they post tech job vacancies

And majority of the pay for people with 3-5 yrs working experiences were within the range of 400-600 thousand monthly (I mean it's alot of money till you start thinking about rents and other bills you have to sort)
So my age+ undergrad+ nysc + some months of searching for jobs + 3 years of working experience and that's what I get..

Don't misquote me , there are lots of guys making way more than that in the tech industry but the chances are slim

@Gerrard59 answer makes good sense. I dont know why you are avoiding where (U.S.A) the best opportunities is waiting for a future scholar like you.

Build yourseld from Nigeria (Start your Bsc), most of our federal Universities are well respected abroad. Opportunities are always there, dont be in a haste. Your present high school achievements can only open doors for you very quickly if you are not avoiding american schools because that is where you can get a full funding in undergraduate engineering with your present credentials.
Ok sir
Thank you So much I really appreciate

Yes, the best place for a Black scholar migrant outside Africa is the US. However, OP can obtain full funding scholarships for undergrad studies in non-English speaking countries. However, he does not want to study in another language other than English.
