Adamawa Governor Fintiri Faces serious Backlash Over N19Billion Yola Conference Centre While Children Learn In Crumbling Classrooms, Under Trees

Many Adamawa residents say the multi-billion-naira venture represents yet another showpiece of wasteful spending in a state where basic education remains in ruins.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State is facing criticism for continuing to channel billions of naira into the construction of an N18.97 billion International Conference and Events Centre in Yola, even as numerous schoolchildren across the state continue to learn under trees and in crumbling classrooms.

The controversial project, awarded to Lubell Nigeria Limited, is already under active construction.

Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Prambe, described the facility as an ultra-modern complex featuring a 1,000-seat main hall, a 360-seat auditorium, seminar rooms, catering and retail areas, medical and support facilities, CCTV security systems, and landscaped surroundings.

But many Adamawa residents say the multi-billion-naira venture represents yet another showpiece of wasteful spending in a state where basic education remains in ruins.

Across several communities, pupils are seen sitting on bare floors or under tree shades due to a chronic lack of classrooms and furniture. Teachers, some with over two decades of service, are still awaiting promotion arrears.

Like many other schools where pupils still learn under trees across the state, Kubaje Dadon Primary School in Mayo-Belwa LGA stands as a stark example of neglect.

This is reckless governance,” said one education rights activist in Yola.

You can’t justify spending N19 billion on a luxury event centre when our children don’t even have chairs or roofs over their heads.”

Critics have also questioned the logic of investing such a colossal sum in a hospitality and tourism project at a time when Adamawa remains listed by the United Kingdom and several Western governments as a high-risk travel destination due to insecurity and insurgent activities.

They argue that in a region still battling banditry and extremist threats, there is no realistic prospect of attracting foreign investors, conference tourism, or international events, making the project’s justification hollow and unsustainable.

Who is this conference centre meant for?” a Yola-based policy analyst, Benjamin Tenang, asked.

Foreign investors are not coming to Adamawa, even locals barely travel at night due to insecurity. This project is simply a white elephant dressed in marble.”

Analysts and insiders familiar with state procurement patterns say such grandiose undertakings often serve as conduits for inflated contracts and political kickbacks disguised as “foreign investment drives.”

In most cases, the so-called international investors or consultants linked to these ventures are merely fronts used to legitimise large-scale diversions of public funds.

They are designed to look good on paper, attract media attention, and create a pipeline for kickbacks under the guise of development partnerships. That’s why governors prefer concrete projects to real human investment. You can’t collect a percentage from a teacher’s salary, but you can from a billion-naira construction contract.”

Observers also accuse the Fintiri administration of using grand construction projects as political trophies while leaving core social sectors like education, healthcare, and rural development in deplorable condition.

This government has chosen concrete over classrooms,” another civil society source lamented. “Adamawa doesn’t need an event centre right now; it needs functioning schools, qualified teachers, and a serious plan to lift the next generation.”

International observers note that Adamawa is currently rated a “Level 4 — Do Not Travel” zone by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), alongside other high-risk areas in Northern Nigeria.

The region also ranks among the least attractive destinations for foreign direct investment according to Nigeria’s 2024 security index.

Analysts say this further weakens any economic justification for the N19 billion project, describing it as “a grand illusion built on insecurity.”

In another news, Kebbi state government approved N10bn loan for Hajj. In a state where their hospital wards looks like a dirty swimming pool.

This is a reason Peter Obi remains very far ahead of them. It doesn't make sense building gigantic projects while you're very low in HDI.

I don't know why our governors enjoy negative competition. They should learn to build the right infrastructures that benefit the people they lead and not the one that serves their ego.

End times leaders all - political, business and religious!

They will get worse as the return of Christ gets nearer and nearer!

They serve the god of this world (this age, this current evil dispensation)!

Solution:
1. Secure your present life and eternity in Christ Jesus!
2. Be financially secured as much as possible!
3. Have a farm or backyard garden with perimeter fencing. Plant vegetables and herbs, fruits, maize, cocoyam, etc
4. Use solar power as much as possible
5. Have one or 2 dogs at home
6. Plan and Work with like-minded others
7. Trust God ...

That is why we continue to demand for good governance no matter who gets angry with that. It is the only way to sustainable democracy.

As Adamawa is so are most other states and indeed their daddy, the Federal government. Spending billions and trillions on white elephant projects while leaving the core mandates of industrialization for job creation and economic recovery, education and health for sustainable mental and physical wellbeing to the people and foreigners to sort out for themselves.

Yes, Nigeria has always been known as the 'contracting' capital of the world, a contractors paradise of sorts where most MDA's are no better than market places, bazaars and Aladin's caves where you can walk in with an empty briefcase and emerge minutes later a billionaire many times over.

And until the people are ready to understand the proper workings of the democracy they profess, nothing in their lives and their fortunes will change for the better.

If this writeup annoys you then it is absolutely true.

Yet some mu² will be comparing us to China and other countries who are making positive impacts. Thier government invests in education but here it's another ball game entirely. They invest in thier stomachs, refuse to upgrade the educational sector in an ever evolving world but they expect the young ones to magically make something out of nothing. Kids now turn to sports and entertainment after going through the ancient educational system and getting the useless paperwork and some f00ls still blame them for diversifying when they're actually showing true strength. You want more scientists and people in technical professions but you can't provide simple condusive environment for learning. I don't even want to talk about the learning materials in our so called tertiary institutions... Yet they're still blind to the fact that we always fare better when trained in western schools. See their priorities. They want a bright future without investing in it. And then they turn around a blame the kids again when the real problems are the old 1d10ts

Get your facts right and stop all these nonsense.
45billion was released to the teachers service board the board blew the money, it got to the extent the Senate committee on education invited the board and the board agreed that the FCTA released funds but they couldn't explain why they didn't pay salaries.

Now the FCTA went ahead and paid again because of people like you, those who stole the teachers money never became the do us but Wike who had released the money to them from the begining of the budget year.

Now Wike is saying the FCTA will be paying the teachers directly so as to avoid a repeat of that issue, you and your fellow things are still the same set of things making noise that Woke doesn't want to release money to the service board, the same board that couldn't pay teachers and yet couldn't account for the money.
You followed the dead brained cell boys jumping around in Wikes office with uniform without getting your facts right....

You Nigerian have a very big issue with you ability to think for yourself. Any fuuul comes round and makes a video and you don't think you should get your facts before judging

If he doesn't do that how is he going to expand his property portfolio home and abroad or finance his unending political battles.

He cannot see Idu Industrial. Has not spent a penny on bringing industrial concerns to partner with the FCT to create jobs and spur REAL development. Yet he is running around turning over every stone to find money for.....yes, contract awards.

When we are ready to empower into office real visionaries, generational thinkers that are selfless, caring and patriotic, then we will go to the ends of the earth to find them and shun all these pirates that force themselves on us.

That is how we have allowed political interests to overshadow our expectations for government services and utilities provided by well paid civil servants.

What Finitri has done is what other governors of the 36 states have done in the last 26 years of return to democracy because of the misplaced priorities of 200 million tribal mumus who use zoning and rotation to fill government positions in the local, state and federal levels.

Anambra doctors call off strike after 13 months
February 28, 2012

After over a year of down tools, Anambra State Government employed medical doctors have finally called of strike.
According to Dr. Emma Ekwesianya, Chairman Anambra State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the striking doctors decided to pick up tools again because of the plight of the ordinary people in the societ.
“It is true, we have called off the strike. We have just signed the agreement with government about an hour ago. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) signed for the government. A technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu was set up to execute the agreement.” He confirmed.

“We decided to take the 60 per cent offered by government because of our people. Government has been rigid and we do not want to continue with the rigidity of government. We are serving the people, not government and our people are suffering.”
Speaking further, Ekwesianya, revealed that a technical committee, headed by Prof. O.O. Mbonu had also been set up by the association to see to the implementation of the agreement with government sequel to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Peter Obi-led government on Monday.

Chief Medical Director, Anambra State University Teaching Hospital (ASUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor also confirmed the new development: “Well I’m happy to tell you that the strike has been amicably resolved, even though, like you said, it’s been a prolonged one but suffice it to say that it has been resolved and the doctors have resumed work.”
“The call off was yesterday (Sunday). The doctors had some negotiations and held their congress yesterday, during which they agreed to call off the strike. So they resumed duty today.
They are in their clinic. Well, I was not privy to the agreement but I will say that our representatives were satisfied with the arrangement, hence they decided to call off the strike.” He disclosed.

And how many of those hospitals did Peter Obi build - where are the standard schools he built in Anambra? Where are the standard roads? Where are the industries? He'd rather invest the money in bank or import tomato paste, or invest in brewery. grin grin grin grin grin
is that the Peter Obi that's better than others? Show me one legacy infrastructure or establishment or progress that is today or can be attributed to Peter Obi, just 1.
All we see are Audio projects - he did this and that - you go explain taya, no evidence.

This is exactly the case.
People don't understand this democracy thing.
That democracy is not a beauty contest. It is not about the individual. We have done that enough.

Obj, military man. He has discipline, he was also an ex HOS so is experienced.....later, no,no,no he was too brash and undermined democracy.

Goodluck, he is an intellectual, he will bring the thought process to government....later, no,no,no he was too soft and clueless and corrupt.

Buhari, yes we need a disciplinarian, and an ex military man to slap Nigeria into shape....later, kai everything is worse than where he met it.

Now, it is your turn, we have a performer, an astute 'politrician' with administrative pedigree... but Nigeria is drifting, almost all indices are even worse...

So wither Nigeria. Is it really about the person's or the system. About the employees (the politicians) , or the company (Nigeria) or the owners of the company (Nigerians).

Where does the blame lie for the state of Nigeria PLC and who can fix it of the three groups.

So you can peddle another name, Peter Obi or Yele Sowore or some other populist. You can employ any kind of expert in any field you think Nigeria needs. The bottom line is MANAGEMENT. The quality of management, citizenry will determine the fortunes of Nigeria.
