Why Do People Praise OBJ? by ObiORBiafra(op): 7:04am On Dec 09, 2025
I believe most people that have said nice things about OBJ started doing so after OBJ left government because during OBJ era Timaya sang "Dem Mama"

African China sang "Crisis" and Mr President.

Eedris AbdulKareem "Nigeria Jaga, Jaga"

BlackFace "E Dey Pain Me and Hard Life"

Marvellous Benji sang "Situation"

TuFace "For Instance" and "E Be Like Say"

Maintain "Alo, Alo"

And so on....

Anybody who knows the lyrics of these songs will understand the poverty and hardship Nigerians were going through when OBJ was president.

I don't get how people started praising him after government, the same thing they are doing with GEJ.

Those songs you pointed out are True, buh if we are being fair to OBJ we know the hardship was a cummulative effect of military regimes OBJ inherited

And if anyone listened to those songs again you will feel apologetic to OBJ ...even though he was not a graduate he reshaped Nigeria economy and brought FDI more than any other govt subsequently

i wont say those songs came out at the wrong time but, if only those musicians can see the future that Apc is coming ... they would have reserved those songs for now

We are praising Obasanjo because he led Nigeria into her current democratic dispensation. When he was sworn in in 1999, expectations were high because he was a democratic leader. Unfortunately, people started criticizing him because he didn't get a lot of things right.

In hindsight, Nigeria has because even worse off today, impelling people to praise OBJ who did a much better job. You can accuse that man of anything, but one thing you cannot accuse him of was working with idiots. Obasanjo worked with the best team in the history of Nigerian democratic dispensation that delivered the best leadership since 1999.
