CAC Mandates POS Registration By January 1, 2026 by Great100000(op): 9:22am On Dec 09, 2025
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced a regulatory move to sanitise Nigeria’s rapidly expanding Point of Sale (PoS) industry, declaring January 1, 2026 as the enforcement date for mandatory registration of all PoS operators nationwide.

In a public notice signed by the Commission’s management, the CAC expressed concern over the rising number of unregistered PoS operators conducting business in violation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agent Banking Regulations.

According to the Commission, the proliferation of unregistered operators often enabled by some fintech companies poses significant risks to Nigeria’s financial system and exposes citizens to fraud and investment losses.

Effective January 1, 2026, no PoS operator will be permitted to run without proper CAC registration. Security agencies have been directed to enforce nationwide compliance, including: Seizure or shutdown of unregistered PoS terminals, monitoring and enforcement actions against non-compliant agents and watchlisting of fintechs enabling illegal PoS operations, with reports forwarded to the CBN.

“This reckless practice often enabled by some EFFECTIVEfintech companies puts Nigeria’s financial system and citizens’ investments at risk. This must stop.

“1 JANUARY 2026, No PoS operator will be allowed to operate without CAC registration.

Security agencies will enforce nationwide compliance. Unregistered PoS terminals will be seized or shut down by Security Officials.

“Fintechs enabling illegal operations will be placed on watchlist and reported to the CBN. All operators are advised to regularize immediately. Compliance is mandatory,” the notice stated

The Commission emphasised that compliance is mandatory and urged all operators, sole agents, super agents, and aggregators to regularise their businesses immediately.

In July 2024, the CAC extended the initial registration deadline for PoS operators from July 7 to September 5, following the expiration of a 60-day window earlier announced for business registration.

By September 2024, the Commission reiterated its warning after many operators failed to comply, stressing that formal registration was necessary to strengthen accountability, curb fraud, and enhance consumer protection in the agent banking sector.

The CAC assured the public that the clampdown is part of broader efforts to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s financial ecosystem and protect millions of citizens who rely on PoS services for daily transactions.

When Tinubu led regime trying all to tax everybody even the palmwine tapper without knowing how to announce it to the public because of backlash, hence the mentioned of fintech as a pretext! I only pity people who still have intentions of voting Tinubu come 2027. His second time will be hell for Nigerians if reelected. As for me and my household in Ondo State, we declare Tinubu not fit for second time as a president

These are Tinubu's Data Boys, they're in all platforms. Their job is to give legitimacy to whatever their Óga does.
Some of them have more than five monickers here.
Just watch, any thread here receives their attention in seconds. Showing that they don't have another job.

I'm confused too because POS are linked with banks. Besides, I thought CAC has to do with registering of companies or firms. There is something fishy about their intentions. Instead of making a bold claim that they want to start tasking POS agents, they are beating around the bush. cool

it is not even about taxation, it is about APC government deliberately manufacturing hardships and suffering for the people at every opportunity, remember cashless, remember currency swap, remember nin, remember enforcing telecoms to re enroll nin,and now this pos that will cause unemployment and reduce income to operators that even manage to register because of 500k weekly withdrawal
If you look at all this there has been no respite for Nigerians since they came onboard, and they have never achieved anything reasonable for which these useless policies were introduced, they just suffered and waste everybody's time

MORE BUSINESS FOR CAC AGENTS, GOOD ONE FOR THEM. MORE TAX INCOME FOR THE EVER TAXING GOVERNMENT. THIS GOVERNMENT IS THE CHIEF SPECIALIST IN TAX MANAGEMENT.

ONE MAN'S PAIN IS ANOTHER MAN'S GAIN. LET THE LEVEL OF HARDSHIP JUST KEEP INCREASING AND MORE BUSINESSES KEEP WINDING UP.

This is not right, POS are issued by establishment already registered with CAC.
Most POS comes from banks and Banks are already registered with CAC

WHY are they trying to attack petty businesses? How much is POS operators making that you want to double tax them?
Re: CAC Mandates POS Registration By January 1, 2026 by FriendsAndFans(m): 12:30pm On Dec 09, 2025
The banks banks who own the POS are already having CAC. Asking pretty businesses to come and register the POS is like collecting double money from them which the bank has already charged

The terminal s are already properties of a fin tech micro finance bank, the uses already registered it with their bvn and nin, what's the real aim of the registration, to catch criminals you already have their bvn which gives you access to all their accounts Nation wide, this government has an hiding agenda for the TIN and CAC registration, which is more direct taxing of our accounts without our permission just like the #50 on every 10,000 and above may God help us

Instead sending law enforcement agents, can't the POS be shut down automatically pending when the details of registration is tendered.
