Your president is working for the west. There's nothing anyone can't tell me that will change my mind. You didn't declare state of emergency in your country

And the coupist would be better?

See how you PDP people are calling for coup now that the tide has turned, while APC people are opposing coup, yet none of you are interested in good government. Na your turn or nobody gets anything.

Has Coup made burkina a better country...where one third of the nation is run by jihadis.? Mali, where the capital is under siege from millitants, and mercs are busy commiting atrocities in the bush? Or even Niger?

OK o. I have seen it so many times. Coup today, shouting for democracy tomorrow...
Has democracy done better in any? Has democracy impacted and improve your life or that of your family and known wishers In any form?

ECOWAS need to have a srong military wing, with good air capabilities, to go after jihadists and coupists, and all forms of terrorism. ECOWAS nations can contribute at least 10million dollars each in a space of one year, to build its capabilities...and of course member nations can contribute as well, but it needs it's independent strength, just like NATO.
well said brother

After mismanaging things, and driving people to the level of preferring military rule, you're claiming activity.

[quote author=iwaeda post=137738914][b]There is no need for emergency, all these leaders should purge themselves. Most of them want to perpetuate themselves in power till death. Benin just change from 5 to 7 years. Alhassan Quatara is doing 4th term rather than 2. Most of the assemblies are puppets and rubber stamps. People are getting tired. There will be more coups, unless good governance.

I completely endorse this opinion

[quote author=jaxxy post=137739026]instead of them to declare state of emergency on the abuse of democracy in Africa by corrupt politicians, civilian dictators and enemies of democracy.

Solidify democratic practices, free and fair elections and ensure good governance, transparency and accountability by political holders.

Once again, I completely concur!!!.
Re: Military coups, insecurity: ECOWAS Declares State Of Emergency In West Africa by hotseat: 2:24pm On Dec 09, 2025
Ignorance is bliss for many people!

Experience has shown that the military often come to power with the claim that they are going to cleanse the system ruined by civilian governments only to make matters even worse.

All what they accuse the civilian governments of doing, they even perfect them.

Corruption, poor leadership and the sit-tight syndrome aren't limited to civilian administrations.

In Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon, General Ibrahim Babangida and the late ultimate dictator, General Sani Abacha, are examples of sit-tight military administrators who refused to hand over to civilian rule after having tasted the sweetness of power.

The level of corruption and high-handedness during their regime are stories for another day.

Remember the Abacha loot saga?

I guess, yes; because more are still being recovered till date.

Therefore, the best military rule is still the worst of a civilian rule.

At least, "freedom of speech" is still relatively "free" in a civilian rule.

In a military regime, for daring to open your mouth wide, one is either arrested, jailed or even killed on the streets as a deterrent to others.

Therefore, be mindful of what you wish for!

State of Emergency that will lead to what exactly
A State of Emergency declared by ECOWAS probably means that the remaining democratically-governed nations of the West African seaboard have arrived at the realization that the specter of Islamist terror networks taking root in Africa MUST be met with a cohesive and collective multinational military response that draws on assets contributed by ALL nations comprising sub-Saharan West Africa, in partnership with a robust and direct military assistance package delivered by the USA and EU, who are now wading into the fray in urgent response to the enormity of the Islamist terror threat that looms larger by the week all across West Africa.

President Bola Tinubu's pragmatic political and military advisors all recognized the perils posed to the general populace by Chinese or Russian boots on the ground in Nigeria, given the track record of China in the shady realm of violent illegal mineral resource mining and plunder globally.

Nigeria's erudite leadership also took into account the sordid reputation of Russian military personnel for acts of horrendous brutality perpetrated against civilian villagers in The Central African Republic and Mali, among other African nations who now rue the day they partnered with Russia's Wagner Group. Military assistance offered by totalitarian dictatorships is best avoided, as the pogroms of recent history reminds us all too well.

Wisely side-stepping whatever military assistance China or Mad Vlad Putin's Russia might offer to Nigeria with the most ulterior of motives, Bola Tinubu prudently chose the surest path to regional stability and lasting peace, by pushing through his government's acceptance of the generous and timely offers pledging military support now extended at the 11th hour by the worlds foremost secular democracies - The USA and The UK, among other EU partners in a coalition of the willing.

Destiny is gradually molding President Bola into the role of a wartime leader that is eminently worthy of the name, who remains attentively calm, calculating, and composed while making sound, cautious, and well-planned strategic decisions despite the monumental pressure he faces as the Commander in Chief of the nation's military now tasked with confronting an Islamist slave-raiding reign of terror currently spreading with alarming speed southwards from the north and middle belt of Nigeria where the conflict smoldered away for a decade, claiming farmers' lives by the score.

The die is cast, and the instruments of war are being assembled for deployment on Nigerian soil.

May the evil meet their match and thus meet their maker as efficiently as American pest eradication technology can make possible.

God bless Nigeria. God bless America. God bless Great Britain.

Exactly, they should rather work on sit tight president who refuse to leave power for decades.

Though with this state of emergency, I doubt if there will be any more military coup in West Africa. Other countries must have learn from Benin Republic. They will just put a call, and external forces will overpower juntas and restored back the civil order.
