Reps Seek Suspension Of Deductions On COVID-19 Loan, Waiver For Vulnerable Homes by eddie7(op): 4:47pm On Dec 10, 2025
The House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, and the Federal Ministry of Finance, to immediately suspend all deductions on COVID-19 intervention loans, while granting total waiver on the outstanding COVID-19 intervention loans owed by vulnerable households and micro-businesses.

In a resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Saidu Musa Abdullahi, the House asked the relevant agencies of government to put into consideration the inability of Nigerians to pay back the loan due to current harsh economic conditions.

It mandates the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to restructure repayment terms for SMEs by extending moratoriums, reducing interest rates, and spreading repayment over longer timelines, in order to safeguard jobs and prevent business collapse.

Hope the GSI they triggered on my account will be suspended, because I can't afford to pay and NIRSAL kept making life very difficult for me by usage of GSI to collect any money that enters my account. Even my business is stargarring due to the current Economic hell fire we are into in this country.

This is a very good development from the house of Representatives, Nigerians will be grateful if the cbn respects the order.

He is only asking the CBN and NIRSAL to suspend the deduction. It hasn't been passed by the house yet. Again, the financial bodies may decide not to heed the call if later contacted by the lower chamber.

Well, it's a thing of fraud from one leder to another. How could some persons stand to enjoy a national cake while others don't have privilege to it as equal citizens?

Error + Error = Disastrous confusion

Buhari didn't mean people repaying it but here we find a leader who can even tax the ant if possible

Omo I heard they deduct money from people's account indiscriminately. Although what did people that collected the loan expect when they were collecting it. Maybe they thought it was National cake

The day they deducted 60k from my account, I immediately withdraw all to Opay. I was mad. My rent was due then. A Covid19 fund that was supposed to be an alleviation to families. That account up to now I have never put money there, only using OPAY for now

I don't even keep kobo in my commercial banks anymore. I open different online banks and left them on tier one (no bvn linkage), to be safe. As money dey enter any commercial bank, I dey move am sharp ally.

Covid-19 loan wen I no use do anything meaningful.

Buhari was lenient on this until this short man came into power.

They shouldn't do that rubbish. CBN workers and politicians used COVID-19 loan to cash out. They gave people loans, and ask them to remit between 10 and 50 percent of the loan amount to them.

Instead of investigating how fraudulently the loan was disbursed, they are asking for a waiver to cover their tracks. No wonder Nigeria was described as a fantastically corrupt country. Smh...
