DomPerignon:The manner in which you refer to their ages and call them inexperienced is disrespectful. There are US Airforce veteran pilots who have crashed despite numerous years of flying. An eye witness noted that the plane was very close to ground level. How come a crash close enough to ground level that it didn’t leave crater will be fatal enough to kill everyone one on board, cut off limbs, and fling out roasted passengers? Even the recent crash in Niger state that is devastating did not have such effects. |

sammiewrite:The 1980s and 1990s were NOT the "glory days" because the corruption rot in the military really began to set in from the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida years and degenerated further in the highly IRRESPONSIBLE and corrupt Abacha Military dictatorship of the 1990s. I have family members (in the United States military) and Nigeria who served in the different arms of the military from the 1960s right into the 2000s. My mother's older sister for instance was a senior Army officer in the medical corp. She read medicine in the United Kingdom and served on the battle frontlines during the 2 years and 6 months (30 months) Nigerian Civil War from July 1967 to January 1970. Her son (my cousin) who was a senior Army officer with the medical corp was ALSO very diligent. The mediocrity and vast corruption began to really set in from the mid-1980s time frame with nepotism and the insidious quota system. |

Ttalk:Just meshiornu - This year alone in the US, there have been more military aircarft crash than Nigeria's in the last 20 years - Was theres also a compromise? They should sort theirs first becoming coming to solve ours. More than 250 logged. https://www.newsweek.com/plane-crashes-2025-list-updated-2024-compared-2063819 How Many Crashes Have There Been in 2025 Thus Far? The NTSB logged 250 aviation incidents and accidents across the United States from January 1 to April 24, 2025. |

DomPerignon:^^^ If the report of an air accident investigation is shrouded in secrecy with no civilian oversight then the results are predictable - and we end up with what we have now. Speculation. Conjecture. Rumours. etc. Two years ago, a military helicopter (MI-171) involved in casualty evacuation crashed in Chukuba, Shiroro local government area of Niger state. There were several military casualties. Then NAF spokesman Edward Gwabyet did not speak on the cause of the crash although he promised an investigation, the results of which would be communicated to Nigerians. Nothing has been heard so far. Where is the accountability? ![]() |

nairalanda1:Lol.. That's not true. It didn't take the Brits that long to subdue the Benin empire which they conquered in a very swift military campaign that lasted roughly two weeks. They bombarded Benin forcing the Oba to flee and leave the city disserted . Oba Ovonramwen was later captured and sent to exile in Calabar where he died in 1914. The people who fought the British for more than two decades using assymetrical warfare were the Igbos not the Benin. Go and read history my friend. The Benin empire was the easiest for them to conquer, even the Sokoto caliphate fought them for a couple of years. The Yorubas folded after Britain took Lagos, reinstalled their stooge Akintola and smashed the Ijebu resistance within a year or so. |

[quote author=Ttalk post=137754694]And some southern follow follow are saying that US should not intervene that they are coming to steal our resources. Now they can see the high level compromise within the security and political circle that suggest Nigeria can never win the war against terrorist on their own strength. While I had been so sure of high level of complicity, I'll completely gobsmacked at how much the terrorists had taken over the government. 🙆♀️😰😱 |

Albertone:Aircrafts are not designed to survive impacts. They are made of light composite material with a light aluminium frame. A Controlled Flight into Terrain or CFiT is what is referee to as a crash. Majority of air accident crashes occurs during low level CFIT aka during landings because this is when the aircraft can crash on a surface. Also the aircraft on final descent was still be operating on a relative high speed as all landings are a controlled stall . , |

”The late Gen. Attahiru, as I was made later understand, had ordered an audit (forensic) of funds and equipment immediately he assumed command of the Nigerian Army as COAS. “He was due to act on the report on Monday, May 24, 2021. He died in the suspicious plane mishap on May 21, 2021,” he saiddem shut the man. DomPerignon: |

DomPerignon:Nah, that whole story is a myth that keeps getting repeated. The 1970s were NOT the worst decade for US air crashes. The 1950s and early 1960s had far more fatal accidents (both in raw numbers and especially per flight). Safety was already getting better by the ’70s. The big accidents of the ’70s (American 191, PSA 182, United 173, Eastern 401, etc.) were NOT caused by “cocky ex-military pilots braggado.” Most involved things like wind shear encounters nobody understood yet, poor CRM (junior crew afraid to speak up), ATC errors, or CFIT in bad weather. Yes, a lot of airline pilots back then were ex-military (WWII/Korea/Vietnam vets), but the NTSB never identified “military bravado” as a systemic cause. The real problem was the old authoritarian “captain is God” cockpit culture that actually predated the military influx and affected civilian-trained pilots too. The FAA and airlines didn’t “rein in reckless military pilots.” What actually happened was the birth of Crew Resource Management (CRM) starting in 1979–1980, which flattened hierarchy, encouraged co-pilots and flight engineers to speak up, and emphasized teamwork. Ironically, some of the earliest CRM ideas came from the Navy and NASA, not despite the military but with its help. With proper CRM that is in place, a young officer can speak up to a "whole" General if and when the conditions of a flight become a safety risk. |

djseanjohn77:Stop comparing apples and oranges. New York alone has more airports than the whole of Nigeria, by multiple times. Not to mention the number of military aircraft alone, not even civilian (over 10, 000 if not more) and thousands of training flights that happen EACH AND EVERY Day within the US. Yet you are comparing mumu statistics with Nigeria. Such cluelessness should be criminalized. |
