I have consistently questioned the way “saves” are recorded in goalkeeping statistics. When analysing goalkeeper performance, there must be a clear and objective distinction between, a save and a catch . The fact that the goalkeeper ends up catching the ball does not automatically mean he has executed a meaningful save. Not every shot on target presents the same level of danger.

A soft, poorly directed effort that functions more like a back-pass should not carry the same statistical value as a shot that genuinely threatens the goal. Treating catches and saves as equal will always do injustice to genuine goal-bound interventions, and such statistics can either inflate or diminish the true quality of a shot and true quality of a goalkeeper’s performance.

Yeah, Courtois is officially credited with nine saves, yet upon closer review, only four of those actions required high-level goalkeeping. The remaining five were routine catches, even if Onana were in goal, none of those five would have beaten him. Grouping all nine under the same category does not accurately reflect the nature of those actions.

So , there should be a statistics for catches and for saves.
So, in my opinion, not all “saves” should be considered true saves.

But let us be factual, Pep will not have Estevao on the bench and be starting Gittens on the right flank. Pep will also never field six or seven natural defenders in one match and still expect fluid attacking play. His entire philosophy is built on balance, positional play, and intelligent rotation.

We have a squad that can complete with any trophy and cwc win is a testament to this, give this squad to a good coach and see wonder,it is about maximising the potential of their strengh, and not using A for B position or x for y position ,and right now we are not using the players we have in the most efficient way. Even with injuries, top managers elevate the squad, they do not hide behind selection mistakes.
If Pep had this same Chelsea squad, you would at least see,
Players in their natural roles
Wide players with actual 1v1 threat.
Midfielders positioned to control matches,
and a team identity you can recognise.
So let us not pretend everything is perfect.
A coach that handicaps his own best weapons cannot flourish.

Such doesn’t count as shot on target. You no dey watch ball? Only ball shot by an opponent counts.

Maybe Onuachu has only been included because he’s the top scorer in the Türkiye league.. But based off of overall quality, I agree that those 2 other guys are better choices

Onuachu is useless outside the box and extremely slow for Nigeria's style of play

He is only good when you play in the opponents box and Nigeria doesn't do that


Same issue he had at Southampton, showing good touches on the halfway line but by the time the wingers enter the box, he will still be on the halfway line

So he can't press at speed or follow his wingers into the box. Tactically it will be like another Tolu Vs DRC scenario with press failing around the striker and the team not being able to relieve pressure by playing balls into the channels for the striker to chase
