This is based on a book by Enid Blyton. Read that as a child. Cannot remember the story asides they entered a tree.

If it streams might see it though. On streaming.
The books were lit. A new land at the top of the tree every couple of days or weeks I can't remember. Some good with enjoyment and some bad and dangerous. I'll definitely look out for this

My GOAT might tbe he only cinema autuer left in a few years time i fear......

His stance is logical, if it was 5 years ago, but with Netflix potential acquisition of WB, i have had to ponder that perhaps, streaming is the future of cinema as we know it, and "The Critical Drinker's" latest piece epitomises this fact, so so better.

Because the truth of the matter, is that with the stress and financial constraints it takes to go to cinemas these days, like 90% of the movies, aren't worth this stress tbh, like who want to genuinely jump through hoops to go see bottom tier flicks "Tron: Ares" (2025) at the cinema, that would leave you wondering what kind of financial mistake you just made? When in a month time, it would come on VOD anyways. 😩

There is a reason why Streaming giants are making so much money these days, enough to bully old studio houses into hostile takeovers. The people just favour the streaming model more. People can easily replicate cinema level entertainment at home no joke, get a 4K TV and Dolby Atmos Soundbar at the minimum, pay 8k to 9k to Netflix for Full HD, sub and stream whatever you want... rather than spending that sum on a single movies, that you are not even sure, will be good.

So my take is that, Cinematic releases should be reserved for the highest end flicks, that you absolutely have to see on the biggest screen, the other slops should go directly to steaming 👍🏿

Predator: Badlands: 4/10
Easily the Worst in the Franchise. Watching Predator: Badlands feels like when people hype you too much as a kid and it gets to your head, then you flop embarrassingly. That’s exactly what happened here. Disney dropped a killer 2-minute trailer, but the movie itself is painfully weaker.

Where’s the gore?
Where’s the brutality?
Where’s the terrifying hunter the franchise is known for?

Instead, we got a soft, watered-down Predator that feels more like a Disney adventure than a deadly sci-fi horror. It has none of the raw intensity Prey delivered and nothing close to the “killer of killers” energy we saw this year.

It got so cheesy I expected them to lock hands and break into Kumbaya. Honestly, they might as well have told us they were making a kids’ movie. This is the worst Predator film to ever hit my screen, a complete disappointment.

I couldn't even finish the Supergirl trailer.

Honestly can't even remember the last good/memorable superhero movie I watched.

Probably Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

You mean the 1994 streetfighter movie starring Van Damme, which was a cult classic? Campy and cheesy but it was many people's childhood.

Raul Julia was the man!!

I'm surprised no one is talking about Knives Out here.

The best thing I saw this weekend.

I think this is my favorite in the trilogy.

This is the deepest and most profound of the Knives Out movies.

The writing is very strong. I couldn't guess who the killer was until the very end.

Josh O'Connor is so so good in this movie alongside Daniel Craig.

I need Knives Out to become the new Fast and Furious. Rian Johnson could make 7 of these movies and I'll still watch em all.

I can't give this movie the praise it deserves without spoiling it.

Top shelf mystery. Highly recommend.

Sentimental Value. (2025)

Everyone's mad at dad, huh?

There were three films I wagered would be my best of the year: Hamnet (2025), No Other Choice (2025), and this. After seeing Sentimental Value, I think I might have wagered right, because by the end, I just knew that if every movie made me feel like this, I wouldn’t complain so much about how badly films have gotten these days.

The Joachim Trier and Renate Reinsve combo is always magic, and after the brilliant The Worst Person in the World (2021), this slightly edges it and that says a lot about how good this is.

Gustav Borg is a once-celebrated filmmaker who leaves his wife and two young daughters after a bitter divorce to chase his career. Years later, after his ex-wife’s death and as his relevance fades in a streaming-dominated industry, Gustav returns with one last script, hoping to matter again. He offers the lead role to his eldest daughter, Nora, now an actress, as a way to reconnect. But what he sees as an olive branch forces them both to confront the hurt of his absence and the cost of his choices.

The film explores so many themes in its two-hour runtime, some of which feel almost personal, abandonment, resentment. I honestly haven’t felt this range of emotion while watching a film in a long time. It is a typical arthouse movie, slow-paced, sometimes lagging, but it unravels beautifully.

Renate Reinsve deserves praise, she’s simply excellent, but the real star of the show is Stellan Skarsgård as Gustav Borg. Honestly, what can this man not do? After giving one of my favourite performances of the year as Luthen Rael in Andor (2022) S2, this felt like the icing on the cake. His portrayal of a selfish father who tries to use art as a tool for reconciliation, rather than simply apologising for lost time, is painfully spot-on. I’ll be seeing you at the Oscars, good sir.!!

This is a top-shelf film, absolutely brilliant in its handling of the subject matter. It might just be my film of the year, at least until I see the other two. Not an easy recommend, as it’s very much an arthouse film and not for everyone but if it clicks for you, it’s a fantastic watch! ✌🏿

Great action and visuals. I liked the storytelling in the TV show better than this. Anyways, still great action.
