Why can't these refineries be built in other states of the country?

Lagos is extremely congested already while other states literally have nothing

Dangote will not like this.

Let's hit on the undeniable logistical truth the sheer scale of machinery for massive industrial projects like refineries makes Lagos's ports the only feasible entry point, as their unique capacity and heavy lift capabilities are unmatched elsewhere. The infamous struggle to transport Dangote's equipment from Lagos port to its site a journey within the same state exposes the impracticality of using other ports, which lack the draft, equipment, and connected heavy haul road networks. This creates a vicious cycle where investors, seeking the path of least resistance and lowest risk, funnel all major projects through Lagos, inevitably choking the city.

The extensive practice of sand filling and land reclamation, as seen in major developments like Eko Atlantic and numerous other coastal estates, is a primary cause of flooding in Lagos. This process drastically reduces the natural channels and basins that would otherwise absorb and hold tidal and rainwater.
A practical illustration is to imagine a cup full of water if you then pour sand into it, the displaced water has no choice but to overflow.[/b]

Similarly, when sand fills rivers, oceans or sea the displaced water overwhelms drainage systems and floods adjacent neighborhoods like Lekki and Victoria Island.

While the government often demolishes houses and shops for obstructing waterways a measure that is sometimes justified t overlooks its own primary role in exacerbating flooding through extensive land reclamation projects like Eko Atlantic.

Yet, instead of halting such environmentally disruptive paradise building, authorities frequently shift blame onto vulnerable communities, destroying livelihoods under the pretext of enforcing laws they themselves undermine through unsustainable planning.

Okoroawusa:
After now someone will come and say it's because Lagos was a federal capital many years ago like Calabar and Lokoja were not once capitals. When you catch them on that one they will change and tell you it's because Lagos is by the sea like Port Harcourt, Warri, and many coastal cities in Nigeria are not by the sea.

Discussions and planning are good for any business venture. These unknown refinery investors should thread carefully seeing all the trials and tribulations Dangote Industries went through to get up and running. Also sourcing an adequate domestic supply of crude is an on going issue.

This is a private company. Can you force a private business to invest against their wish?

Investors must have done their home work before preferring Lagos...

besides that, investors are looking for a safe and conducive environment for their business and only lagos and by extension SW provides that. The dangote refinery was initially planned for Ogun state like they rightly said but as a result of politic played by the former governor of ogun state and other factor, Ogun missed the opportunity. There is also another refinery being planned in Ondo state and Ogun state will also be having a sea port about to be constructed by dangote and it is no surprise that Ogun also as the highest number of industries in Nigeria, all this because of a safe environment and accommodating nature of the Yorubas who are peace loving people and progressives which some clowns misconstrue to be cowardice. But that as earn the SW the destination choice of investors and multinationals grin

Pls carry on I'm very proud of how Lagos is moving and Engu are making all moves to do better all the time. Whereas a particular region are busy making insecurity their pride and religion then go on Internet to blame Tinubu.

Pls ask as their be any Northern govetnor that even showcase their forest Guard? No. Hisbah sht are busy with destruction of beer bottles but Turji and his group are doing naming, wedding but couldnt arrest them, they are spending hundred of Bilions on nonsense Hajj but on security lets pray to Allah and waiting for Tinubu to rush down to Zamfara himself to arrest them.

I respect any state govenor building for the future because its certain in the future we might return to regional govt or go separate way so any region still sleeping and snoring now, sorry you are on your own.

Just imagine that it is Igbo land that all these refineries are springing up when they do not have the oil needed to run them and they are banking on the oil from South south, everyone would have opposed them. Today, the same south south that was shouting our oyel our oyel to the Igbos, have all kept quiet as the yaribas and the hawusa foolanis pillage the oil resources with reckless abandon.
Let the south south continue fooling themselves and be seeing the Igbos as their enemies, while the south west continue using the oil to industrialise their region and leave them behind.

1. Safety has nothing to do with it Because in those regions you claim are unsafe they still have Industries Even if it's not big. safety is safety.

Let me Use this as an example. If you have free plot Directly behind Your current house you are living And the land is unkept and Bushy You would definitely be expecting reptiles and rodent But as soon as you develop that property They Vanish

This tells you that development bring peace and Calmness to a society

2. The people of Ogun didn't misse the opportunity. They still have their land and can develop it any they want to.

Note: Them no dey catch late comers for development matter

Somehow I feel they are the ones who want to open their own refinery by proxy after seeing how dangote is trying hard to monopolize the industry.

At least they're investing the money here and creating jobs.

You will have to meet with the private investors and convince them not to put their business in Lagos.
Are you living in Lagos? Just think of it as someone convincing you not to live in Lagos and asking you to go back to village and do business there.

I pity all the Southern governors who decamp to APC with nothing to show their people.

They will tell you revenue, but no national projects presence .

At least the Southsouth and Southeast should have gotten a refinery each to show benefit for decamping.

Building a second refinery in Lagos with no proven commercial well.

Dangote imports crude oil to refine in Lagos and sell to all regions.
These SS and SW governors are the dumbest set we have ever produced.

SS and SE will never learn.
