Congratulations but you should take into consideration that applying for a H1b visa is very different from applying for a visit visa or student visa which majority of Nigerians on this site are applying for. As someone who has gone through the L1b process I know for a fact that for H1b, you’ve already gone through multiple steps before you get to the visa application stage at the embassy, and if your company is an established company which I’m sure it is they also have immigration lawyers involved. For a H1b visa by the time you’re applying for the visa your case is very straightforward unless there are issues that come up. Also for a H1b visa you don’t have to prove ties to your country because a H1b visa has immigration intent unlike a visit visa where you have to show ties to your country and prove that you plan to come back after your visit. For a visit visa the first contact with US immigration authorities is when you apply for the visa at the embassy but for H1b there are multiple steps before the embassy stage where you’ve been vetted including being picked in the H1b lottery etc before you get to the final step of applying for the visa at the embassy. Anyway good luck with the move and hope everything works out. Luap2025: |

Luap2025:Congratulations. However, Your visa category is hardly denied at the embassy because prior to your interview, USCIS would have already done all due diligence before approving your form i-797 petition which is the basis for scheduling your visa interview. That is why its the first thing they asked you aside your passport. So the embassy interview is mostly a formality and just to confirm your documents and issue the visa for you to travel thats why it wasnt a problem approving your wife immediately as theres nothing that warrants the delay. My wife and I likewise got our H-1B and H4 last year August. Its different from a visitors visa or student visa where all due diligence is done and decision taken right there at the embassy. Around 90% of people who went before us in these other categories were denied and at a point, even while we knew we would get it, other peoples experiences ignited a subtle anxiety. But we thank God sha. Congratulations again. |

Putting this out there for the community H1Bs have better approval rates at the embassy My case - H1B cap exempt and filed premium processing and initially had an RFE from USCIS. Had a lot of anxiety but thankfully it was approved on day 7 of receipt. I scheduled regular appointment then requested emmergency appointment by writing a compelling letter and attaching my appointment which was January 2026, letter from the hospital, previous B1/B2 and was approved 4 hours after submission. I scheduled a date immediately. Again, by Gods Grace my approval notice arrived a day to my interview date which is 2 business days from USCIS approval( approved on Thursday and received on Monday). My attorney received and scanned a copy before sending via fedex. FedEx scheduled delivery was 10 days but got an email update on the 8th day that document will be ready at the post office. Before I received the scanned approval notice, I was contemplating printing out the email USCIS sent to attorney indicating approval for my embassy appointment. Please don’t do this. I don’t think one will be allowed without at least a copy The staffs that check all asked about it and the VO asked about it immediately. Was hard to come across much info on the timelines so that’s why I’m posting this. Visa approved and I got a notification from OIS 3 business days after that passport is ready Dhl is free but picking up at OIS is 50k |

A friend of mine had her h1b interview in Lagos today and despite her ds160 matching her appointment letter, they turned her back, saying 'details not found' and asked her to reschedule after 2 working days Please what can I do to avoid this Do I need to do an ofc appointment? Do I need to go before the interview date for an interview person document review Can I just go to the consulate at any time to make enquiries? |

Has anyone gone for H1B/H4 stamping recently. I am in the US and I am planning on going back to do somethings and then go for my stamping on the 5th of January. I just wanted to know the situation of things as regards that. I heard visa appointments are be rescheduled in us embassies in India. Additionally, what are the chances that Nigeria will me placed on travel ban between now and January? |
