Stanley Nwabali's wrist and ankle injuries meant the Udinese goalkeeper finally had his chance to reclaim the number one spot for Nigeria heading into the AFCON tournament.

The 26-year-old has also had a run of games for Udinese lately, keeping two clean sheets in his last eight games, unlike Nwabali, who's yet to play for Chippa United since the November International break.

Still, Okoye was not a part of the three goalkeepers chosen by Eric Chelle. Nwabali, Amas Obasogie and Francis Uzoho were preferred.

It seems playing in any club in Europe is a criteria for selection.
There’s no way you won’t find a Homebase’s player who can replace some of these players playing in some of these European clubs

Is it the ones that couldn't get past the group stage of home based nations cup or the ones at our four clubs that represented us in caf competition that couldn't get past the first qualifying stage. Even Rivers United that manage to get to the group stage has lost their two matches so far

I have been saying it, these set of super eagles players we have now are the best we can offer even though their best is not good enough. They're just a little above average.
I'm just gonna watch the nations cup with open mind. Anything they come up with, I will take it. I'm not expecting much, but if they shock me or us by winning it, all the best to them.
