With God and free will:

God exists outside time. For Him, past, present, and future are all “now.”

The incident where people were throne in the lake of fire symbolizes total destruction. To prove this further, note that Death also was thrown in this same lake of fire. Now can death be held? It’s metaphor to denote total destruction, to tell you that at a point in the future Death and sinners will cease to exist
