Lagos is not the ONLY state in Nigeria that has seaport federal government should try as a matter of urgency and open other states that shares the same value like lagos in terms seaports and otherwise, to decentralised and also make other states viable for economic growth.

I have no problem with other states developing rather than Lagos being the only one which has functioning governors (even though IMHO Fashola was the last solid state governor). It is best in the long run for Nigeria if other states step up and even give Lagos a run for its money.

If people with money want to retire in Nigeria it is often only Abuja and Lagos they consider.. why? Infrastructure.
insecurity in the east ,South south and Northern Nigeria is the reason people only settle only in these 2 state

Lagos is little developed today because of federal government support because of it's former capital territory status.

lagos woulda been a dirty slum like Oyo Ibadan if not for the help of the federal government.
Why is Calaba and Kogi not developed like Lagos? Since U said Lagos was developed because it was former capital

I am a Lagosian 100% and I support the reactivation of other ports as well as the decongestion of Lagos ports.

Sanwo-Olu doesn't need to fret because most people will still use the Lagos port anyway, but the revenues might be lower. The population of Lagos is a major factor and the largest market is there, regardless of any overbloated ego any group of people have.

If the Lekki Deep Seaport can have advanced infrastructure, Lagos would even generate more revenue with time.
I like the positivity in your post.

Babatunde Sanwo-Olu ISN'T even "fretting" over anything. It's the highly irresponsible sensationalism in the newspaper report from ThisDay newspaper and other posters here and online spreading disinformation and ethnic bigotry and hate speech largely targeted by a section of people from the East of Nigeria on YouTube over this matter that's the problem. They are highly ignorant of the FACT that President 'Bola Tinubu's wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu was born by an Itsekiri woman from Warri (she married an Ijebu man from Ogun State), hence Oluremi Tinubu is maternally directly from the Warri area in Delta State. The NPA is under a Yoruba man so what's the targeted hate speech for?

Onne River Port too is currently functioning and people are using it. Yet they keep irresponsibly shouting and spreading propaganda online, "Lagos monopoly, we are in Lagos because of the ports. How many of these economic migrants use the Lagos ports?"

The other River Ports in Calabar, Warri, Koko, Burutu, Onitsha have been functioning in the past BUT have been very expensive to maintain annually due to the millions of Naira needed for the constant dredging or desilting of the rivers along which those River Ports were built.

At the end of the day, shipping experts will tell you that it's the shipping companies that will decide whether to come to a River Ports or NOT because large ships cannot sail into shallow rivers where most of these River Ports are located.

The advantage Lagos is experiencing has to do with being naturally located along the Atlantic Ocean and the West African regional and international business coastline. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the FACT that Lagos Island (a very tiny part of Lagos State) was the administrative capital of Nigeria from 1914 to 1991.
That fabricated claim by one IRRESPONSIBLE poster on this thread is dishonest! The Lagos-Kano-Jibia trade route is currently the busiest in the whole of Nigeria and MOST of the containers coming into Nigeria are meant for the industries in Lagos, Ogun, Ibadan industrial hubs and the Northern States. Then another set the east of Nigeria.

There's way too many uninformed posters on this website who have NO business being here to mislead others who just want CREDIBLE information.

Lagos fretting about the desire to build refineries in Warri, Portharcourt and Kaduna.

You should have already known the news was nonsense.

You forget why companies left Warri before?

The people who controls matters in Lagos have made sure the environment stays conducive and healthy for businesses to thrive, is it ever the same everywhere in the nation?

You these people.

Re: Lagos Frets Over Planned Reactivation Of Other Ports by Goke7: 2:04pm On Dec 15, 2025
Lagos needs to be decongested the environmental carrying capacity has been overstretched and is becoming a burden on public utilities.

There’s no need for any debate on this.
Re: Lagos Frets Over Planned Reactivation Of Other Ports by naijaking1: 2:14pm On Dec 15, 2025
Evil is when you threaten the so called noncitizens of Lagos, and you still can't let them go use other port facilities so that you can have Lagos to yourself.

Imagine US with only the NY port, only!
Re: Lagos Frets Over Planned Reactivation Of Other Ports by naijamerican: 2:20pm On Dec 15, 2025

Expanding port activity beyond Lagos isn’t just smart, it’s necessary and long overdue. Over-reliance on Lagos has created congestion, environmental strain, and inflated transport and cost of goods. Ports in Warri, Calabar, and Onne can unlock regional economic potential, shorten supply chains, and distribute opportunities more evenly across Nigeria.
As the proverb goes, “Many hands make light work” a network of efficient ports will strengthen the national economy far more than concentrating everything in one location.
Those fools will never know this talk more or less accept it. Sharing ports workload will increase the economy and bring in more investments into the country and price of things will also drop drastically. But some wicked and backward people will never accept it

This is the way to go.
Lagos is congested, and have proven over the year, to be incapable of managing the stress.
It's high time president Tinubu diversifies and grow the cou try as a whole.
Lagos isn't the only state with connected waterways

Please explain what you mean by congestion
Is this something you have heard others say or something you understand
In one or two sentences

What is congestion

What has congestion got to do with ports?

WHY LAGOS IS UNIQUE:
We told them before but you know the On -Line Warriors, are always given Excuses for their Regional Failures - blaming Everyone Except themselves!
Same that Some Northerners are NOW doing Soul -Searching today,on Why the North is Not Growing Economically!
-that their Past Leaders-Former Executives, Governors,Ministers,Head of Depts Agencies, etc ,have Scam them ,hence the North is just the breeding -grounds to Bokoham -Terrorists and Kidnappers and Other Criminals across the Borders!
1•Lagos has A Natural -Longitude and Latitude -Ecosystem that you don't need any Dredgging Except you Want Corruption to be enlongated.
2•For example,
-as the NPA ( Port Authority) how many Dredgging do they do?
Because ,Lagos PORT IS THE Easiest Way to -Imports and Exports Goods - WITH Lesser COSTS, unlike Other Ports!
3•Lagos ,Due to its CLOSENESS TO EUROPE 🌍, ASIAN Countries, USA,China, etc, and Other Continents,e.g You can get your Vehicles to be Imported with Ease to Lagos and distribute to other States in Nigeria!
4• Cost of Transportation, etc -Are Lower than any Other Ports in Nigeria!
5• If You Can Not Stop - the Sea ⛵,the Ocean 🌊 Water and its environs,
then Let Lagos Be!
6•You should Stop this Jealousy, Bitterness,Hates and Falsehoods - For What God Has Naturally Endowed the STATE.
-For Example,
-One Refinery Is Not Enough in Lagos,if Texas in US Can have 30- 40- Private Refineries,So Let the Lagos- Business -Revolution - Start NOW!
7•Just Imagine the Evil Conspiracies - since 1963-they helped the Military under the Former leader to remove the Federal Capital to hurriedly went to Abuja, but who Cares?
8.Yet Lagos Continues to Grow 🪴 Continuously- In Geometric patterns -With
- New Airport-
- New Sea ⛵ Port,
- New Industrial Development Sector-in Lekki-Peninsula- Corridors,apart from -Ikeja,Ilupeju,Island, Mainland,etc,
9- Population Increases every Month - now estimated 25- Millions People,
10-Do you think People just Love -Lagos
Or,
•Why Do almost All Your Leaders Love -Lagos than Elsewhere, afterall, they have their Houses- and Properties -and Businesses here!
•You Are All Welcome tho the Aquatic Splendour of the Lagos State- Since the Colonial Days !
