Expect Further Reduction In Petrol Prices, Dangote Assures Nigerians by Ecstasy154(op): 2:04pm On Dec 16, 2025
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has vowed to further slash prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol nationwide.

The promise is coming less than 24 hours after the entrepreneur announced an imminent reduction in petrol prices.

A Monday statement by the company said MRS, which operates over 2,000 filling stations nationwide, has begun selling petrol at ₦739 per litre in Lagos, down from ₦885, bringing immediate relief to commuters and businesses.

“Pump price of PMS would decline further”, the statement quoted the entrepreneur, adding that petrol would sell at no more than ₦740 per litre from Tuesday, starting in Lagos.

“From Tuesday, all MRS stations will sell PMS at prices not exceeding N740 per litre, beginning in Lagos,” Dangote said.

He also announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery had reduced its minimum purchase requirement from two million litres to 500,000 litres, a move designed to enable more marketers, including members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), to participate in product offtake.

“So if you come to the refinery today, you will get PMS at N699 per litre,” he stated.

Dangote maintained that Nigerians would be the ultimate beneficiaries of domestic refining as the refinery was working around the clock to ensure that recent reductions in gantry prices were fully reflected at the retail level.

He further highlighted quality differences between locally refined fuel and imported products, noting that PMS supplied through MRS and other refinery offtakers are straight-run fuels, unlike blended products imported from overseas markets.

“Nigerians have a choice: to buy better-quality fuel at a more affordable price, or to buy blended PMS at a higher rate. Importers can continue to lose, as long as Nigerians benefit, I am happy,” Dangote said.

He disclosed that despite challenges, including resistance from vested interests, the refinery would deploy its fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in the coming days and was prepared to procure additional units beyond the existing 4,000 trucks to sustain affordable nationwide distribution.

Responding to concerns by some oil importers that the price reductions would lead to losses, Dangote said the refinery was established primarily to serve Nigerians.

“Anyone who chooses to continue importing despite the availability of locally refined products should be prepared to face the consequences,” he said.

Dangote also reiterated his resolve to protect the refinery, describing it as a strategic national asset.

“A business of this magnitude must not be allowed to fail,” he said. “If they want to import fuel, let them continue. We will meet in the market. If 4,000 CNG trucks are not enough, we will buy another 4,000. This is a logistics business.”

Any clown who is supporting Dangote to kill imports should also use same breath to call for the ban of importation of rice and other grains. Let's go back to when farmers and middlemen were ripping us apart with high cost of foodstuffs

For how long? Price that will go back up?

No one care to ask why they are fighting one another?

The market said dangote price is too high. Considering import cost and duty far way cheaper for them to still maximize profits. Intead tor them to buy from him they choose to import.

This price reduction is artificial and not tor good intentions. Filling station are still selling normal price

Ah ah, is this deliberate misrepresentation? You think Dangote is reducing price because he loves you?

The latest report is that he is doing this to kill importation so he can fix price as he desires. As a matter of fact, he is bearing a heavy loss in this reduction. Dangote is a greedy capitalist. The earlier you realise this the better.
Re: Expect Further Reduction In Petrol Prices, Dangote Assures Nigerians by Saint99: 3:47pm On Dec 16, 2025
That is the way to go. 8 believe he did everything to please these guys but they refused to be pleased because they prefer to import and sell at huge profits than to buy the same fuel from Dangote and make a marginal profit. You can't have a refinery of this magnitude and be importing fuel, it is a slap on the Nation. More people should feel free to build a refinery, let's stop this fuel importation nonsense when we have an abundance of crude oil. Initially, they connived and refused to sell crude oil to him.

Meanwhile all these importers, why can't they pull their resources together and build their own refinery here in Nigeria? Abi there is something they are not telling Nigerians?

Messrs Aliko is getting it all wrong!! In a bit tp spit other major marketers he engaging in an unsustainable price war, even when he himself alluded to selling at lost.. What he should know is that refining operations is highly risky and capital intensive

Your concern should be directed at the FG whom under apc administration in 10 years have failed to either rehabilitate any of the existing refineries or build new ones!

If the Nigerian owned refineries were functional, the competition would have driven the cost of PMS to #200 per litre by now!

The latest report is that he is doing this to kill importation so he can fix price as he desires. As a matter of fact, he is bearing a heavy loss in this reduction. Dangote is a greedy capitalist. The earlier you realise this the better.
And how has importation solved our problems with it's huge landing costs?
If we had atleast 3 optimally functional refineries owned by FG who would even bother importing?

Re: Expect Further Reduction In Petrol Prices, Dangote Assures Nigerians by Reference(m):
We should be a knowledge based people.
I wonder why the media who has access to him don't ask some salient questions. Because some of the wordings of his statement are grave.

It is alarming for him to insinuate that continued importation of products will break his refinery particularly when it is not clear whether he can meet local consumption. He often says he can but the regulator says otherwise so who is telling the truth.

The second question that should be asked is, how he is funding these prices cuts. Is he making any money selling at these prices. If he isn't then it is the same route to bankruptcy.

The government has to step in in the interest of the industry to find a solution to this matter. We know the years of lack of refining capacity in the country has bred whole new businesses, investments centred around importation. Businesses employing thousands that are threatened with dissolution and will not go quietly without a fight.

But it is the responsibility of government to find solutions that will satisfy all parties and ensure the transition to local refining goes smoothly.

Havent we imported for long enoug, if Dangote is killing importation why are the marketers refusing to diversify into Building there own refinery . . is it an abomination

Dangote can wake up and slash price as he like becos he is a " producer" is product is rules But marketers can do nada because naa another Producer product dem they sell they have no say on price like Dangote

Once upon a time, we thought refinery in Nig. is rocket science But Dangote as paved the way .... why are they still fixated on import

Build your damn refinery if you really wana compete with a Producer
