Best to run a dedicated 110v line/sockets , connected to a central Step DOWN transformer close to the DB. Have been using that kind of setup at a place for more than 20 years ozone0801: |

We have numerous ones. One for each building, most are 5-10kva in capacity. I bought one independent 5KVA last year. That was for a specific 2.8kva machine. You have to determine the load you want it to carry and determine the capacity. I will advice that you give a good head room for future additions if you want to use a central unit. FEGEITOK: |

twinskenny:thought most people in here said 350watts Solar panels, and even 400watts are old school and should never be used or does that only apply when it's said by @bassdow ? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 8:41am On Dec 16, 2025 |
AyobamiOluwole:anyOne who repairs fans both AC and DC should have that. Except Oshodi / Arena is closeby, not really worth the cost of transportation. You didn't tell us what's wrong with the current one as it might still be useful |

bassdow:It’s broken. Look closely you will see that the white plastic that clips the fan blade is broken. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 10:27am On Dec 16, 2025*. Modified: 12:02pm On Dec 16, 2025 |
AyobamiOluwole:doesn't look like it should affect the working of the fan thtough might be wrong BUT have you tried using it like that to see if it's affecting it. Either way, my response earlier still applies should you really need to have it replaced. If you got the broken piece, super glue + sharp sand should do a good enough job if you willing to go that route else either use it that way or have it replaced. The choice is yours |

Please I need your assistance and suggestions. Due to light situation in my area, Enugu State, I'm thinking of solar as backup. what capacity and brand 'of inverter, battery, and solar panel will be required for 2 TVs (55inch & 32 inch), 2 decoders, 5 ceiling fans, 2 rechargeable fans, 4 laptops, 15 bulbs (5 watts), 1hp inverter AC, 8.5kg washing machine, pumping machine and 259L freezer. I intend to only to use the solar system as backup to NEPA. The heavy load appliances such as washing machine, AC, pumping machine & freezer will run only during the day (10am - 4pm). Also, a rough estimate on the cost implications will be appreciated. |

billyfranc:Repeatedly, we have suggested people accompany their Maxumum budget along requests such as these so we don't waste time making suggestions that wouldn't be useful to the person asking. |

billyfranc:What is the size of the pump? Do you intend to pump water using the solar system or only with light since you said it is just a backup system? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by billyfranc: 6:47am On Dec 17, 2025 |
I intend to pump water occasionally with solar as its just a back up to normal grid. The pump is 1hp favouredbymercy: |

| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by abuzz33: 7:04am On Dec 17, 2025 |
billyfranc:You should calculate it as follows: Energy Audit: - 55 inch TV : 120W - 32 inch TV : 80W - 2 Decoders : 60W - 5 Ceiling Fans : 300 - 375W - 2 Rechargeable Fans - 100W - 4 Laptops - 400W - 1 HP inverter AC : 500W - 15 Bulbs : 75W - Freezer : 200W - Pumping Machine : ? - 8.5kg Washing Machine : 1.5Kwh From this clearly you need at least a 5kwh inverter and 6kwh to handle thr surge of your washing machine. Second is average nighttime load. If you run all ceiling fans for 12 hours that's already 3KWH. If you put on lights for at least 5 hours that's 325W. If you watch TV for at least 6 hours that's 1.5kwh. So you need a 5KWH battery minimum. Then to run your daily load of at least 8kwh and charge your battery of 5kwh you need at least 4.5KW of Solar panels. Summary: - 5Kwh inverter : N 550K - 550W panels x 8 : N1m - 5Kwh LFP battery : N1m - Wiring & accessories: N 200K - Transport: 100k - Installation : N 150k Total: N 3m * Contact if interested. * |

billyfranc:Which area of Enugu do you reside |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by favouredbymercy: 11:54am On Dec 17, 2025 |
billyfranc:From my experience, the starting surge of pumping machine is very high. So i cant recommend a 24v system for pumping machine anymore. Just look at a 48v system. If you can leave out the water aspect, then a 24v system would do just fine. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by HeavenlyBang(m): 11:55am On Dec 17, 2025 |
favouredbymercy:I use my 24v inverter to pump water with zero issues. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by abuzz33: 11:57am On Dec 17, 2025 |
Gshems:Its not. Have been doing this since 2017. |

HeavenlyBang:1hp submersible? Which Inverter u dey use? I believe U make use of a good inverter na, not all these chinese branded inverters always having powerboard issues. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by HeavenlyBang(m): 12:14pm On Dec 17, 2025 |
favouredbymercy:I'm not sure about the pump's rating but under regular usage it draws around ~1.3kw. Inverter is a 3.3KW SRNE unit. The 4.2kw inverters on the market should be able to handle a 1hp pump no matter what. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Unfaized: 1:23pm On Dec 17, 2025 |
favouredbymercy:I use 24v Haisic hybrid inverter. Great inverter, very silent. No issues with even 1.5hp submersible. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Edrizz(m): 7:59pm On Dec 17, 2025 |
Unfaized:If it's their 4.2kva, it isn't silent oooo both while charging alone n when load is used on it.... |
