David developed a taste for accumulating women that he deprived another man of his wife and then got rid of him like a gangster. As a result, the man's household suffered and the man himself suffered. Sword never departed from his house.

One wife was not western thing. Westerners even had wives and concubines self before Christianity. Roman empire times, they even had things like master sleeping with slaves, regardless of age.

Besides the original plan was one wife for one man. As Jesus said a man shall cleave onto his wife and the two shall become one. Not wives, wife. If God intention was polygamy he would have created more women for Adam.
