STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

Engineers Farouk Ahmed, Gbenga Komolafe resign, President Tinubu nominates successors to the Senate for approval

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.

The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.

Eyesan, a graduate of Economics from the University of Benin, spent nearly 33 years with the NNPC and its subsidiaries. She retired as Executive Vice President, Upstream (2023–2024), and previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy at NNPC from 2019 to 2023.

Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, born in 1957 in Gombe, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 1981 with a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering. He was announced today as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy.

His prior roles include Managing Director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and Nigerian Gas Company, as well as Chair of the boards of West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries, and NNPC Retail.

He also served as Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power Directorate, where he provided strategic leadership for major gas projects and policy frameworks, including the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code, and contributions to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

Engineer Mohammed played a pivotal role in delivering key projects such as the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, and Nigeria LNG Train.

Farouk Ahmed and Gbenga Komolafe were both appointed by Buhari. Their resignation and replacement is a welcome development.

It is not about Dangote please.

It is by his alleged betrayal of public trust.

A career civil servant that can afford to spend $5 million on his 4 children schooling in Switzerland has already made his case bad enough.

This has nothing to do with monopoly. For Dangote to personally get involved not minding what's at stake, Farouk is a crook. The ICPC should pick him up, seize his passport and charge him to court before he escapes like Ibrahim Lamorde

Re: Tinubu names new CEOs for NUPRC, NMDPRA as Komolafe & Farouk resign by malali:
This is why Nigeria will always move backwards. We are slowly watching an individual capture the whole energy sector of a country.

This refinery was built on subsidized dollars from Nigerian CBN. This dollars were subsidized by all Nigerians. It was built at 350 naira to a dollar.

Now that 1 dollar is 1500naira. Nobody can build a refinery of that size in Nigeria. And no foreign investor will come to Nigeria and build a refinery. Because you cannot compete with one built at a cheaper 350 naira to 1 dollar.( By doing this he has established a monopoly)

Now this new puppet NMDPRA CEO will dance to Dangote's tune and petrol supply will be monopolized by him.

In a country like China, if Government gives you subsidized dollars and import waivers a portion of that refinery say 30-40% will be nationalized. It will be owned by the people. Because Nigerians revenue was used to subsidize the dollars.

Dangote built the refinery at 350 Naira to 1 dollar but will now sell petrol at 1500naira to 1 dollar......Do you see the scam ?

What kind of business man only thrives on government subsidies, government concessions, import waivers and monopoly of the market ?

Dangote's next step is to force the other refineries out of business, by manipulating the price. After that he will make sure no new refineries are built. Voila.....100% Monopoly

We cannot use corruption to fight corruption.
