Nothing weirds me out more than the way they portray African accents in Hollywood productions. Especially with Nigerians. The way they are speaking Yoruba in this second season of Tomb Raider is making me want to smash my phone as I'm watching  3 Likes |

pu7pl3:I think it's a stereotype that they have ran with for years, and our actors and actresses from this part that have had roles in Hollywood prod, have failed to correct when they hand them these scripts. Stella Damasus acted as an Ibo mother in Netflix's Mo (2024) S2, with an heavily igbo accented English that pissed me off, because she actually sounds nothing like that, and she gave an interview where she said, "these are the things we do for the love of the game", Ma, No, you can actually correct them!. The idea is that, they really want us in their productions, for our "Nigerianess" if that makes sense, which includes that weird accents, which of course we are much more than that. This is one of the reasons i hated BoB ❤️ Abishola, and perhaps it's the only Chuck Lorre sitcom i hated, people of Nigerian decent who normally speaks clear English was made to use that weird out accent. For context. Olu Jacobs was acting in British sitcoms in the 70s, and speaking impeccable English and it was all fine...makes you wonder. 5 Likes |

Lana1:That shit always pisses me off too..... I'm like don't even force it try yourself doing shitty accent that's painful to the ears. The only time I think I've enjoyed it or the Nigerian accents was tolerable was in the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne earlier this year with that Ogun character singing praises. It was melodious even tho I know I could still feel it felt off. Sometimes it's even worse and way more annoying when I see someone with a Nigerian name or heritage doing the accent — shittily.  1 Like |

abduleez1:Hollywood always has a way of portraying certain regions and people from those regions in a way that passes as discriminatory sometimes. That nonsense with the accents is one of the reasons I rarely go back to watch the Black Panther movies. I just can't wrap my head around an advanced and educated people all speaking the same way with the same thick accents as if they are learning to put words together for the first time 1 Like |

Lana1:Likely everyone has this complaint tho Most people's languages are probably butchered. A proper Yoruba, russian, Arab accent will not do much for the movie or shows bottom line. Their target market is a western audience. Only people who will get more than pandering are the Chinese with their big ass market |
