The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has reduced its petrol price for the third time in December 2025. A DAILY POST correspondent who surveyed filling stations in Abuja observed on Thursday that NNPCL has reduced the petrol price to N835 per liter, down from N915. This means that the state-owned oil firm adjusted its fuel price by N80. The development comes as MRS, BOVAS, and AA Rano earlier reviewed their fuel pump price to between N739 and N865 per liter in the nation’s capital. DAILY POST reports that NNPCL and other filling stations’ price cuts come after Dangote Refinery and depot owners slashed their ex-depot price to between N699 and N800. Recall NNPCL; other filling stations reduced fuel on December 4 and 10, 2025, respectively. This is the beauty of competition. If the momentum of this competition is sustained, price of petroleum may come down to 400 per liter by March 2026. Dangote wanted to gain absolute monopoly over petroleum industry. It won't work, as you slash your price, others will follow suit. Fuel importation will continue and you cannot stop it |

Classic rebuttal to that popular phrase that when 2 elephants fight the grass suffers... Competition is really having a good effect on the people here. The competition is beneficial to Nigerians. Infact, the elephants are fighting and the grass is getting fresher. Nobody knows for how long though! ![]() |

miracle002:Sure, but I don't trust dangote though... Who is a stark capitalist and monopolist. To me he is just trying to strangle the competition so as to gain the upper hand in the market. So he can control the market price to whatever he wants when the competition is no more. So he isn't necessarily doing it because he has the interest of Nigerians at heart but to gain absolute control of the market. Nigerians should enjoy it while it lasts and favors them though! |

Comrade Dangote in action. It’s like he wants to challenge what Bill Gates did in polio eradication. He has therefore chosen #500 per liter fuel price as his own target to help Nigerians. I would have directed him to 24-hour electricity but honestly this one is also important. |

brain54:Let me shock you, you are not the one that said it rather it is the Spirit of God that spoke through you. You may be a Prophet but you may not know. I created a post about what you just said on Wednesday and nairalanders wanted to eat me raw. They labelled me all sorts of names You just confirmed to me what God told me that morning. I don't know you, we have never met before or discussed about this issue but you are confirming exactly what God told me. You may be a prophet or have the spirit of prophecy. Let me repeat what God told me. Dangote is not fighting for the masses. He is fighting for his own selfish ambition of monopolizing the petroleum industry. He does not want competition at all. He is crashing the price just to win the heart of Nigerians. If he is given the monopoly, he will show Nigerians his true color. God told me he will fail with his inordinate ambition. Competition will continue and fuel importation will not stop. |

This is the result of competition I remember when Tinubu said he doesn’t believe in price control that the market variables would work against saboteurs and now I understand. Nigerians have been suffering from bad policies for long, suffering from ‘E no go spoil for my head policies’ they just wanted to win elections |

![]() Very commendable, but you will still see drivers inflating price of transportation, like their lives depend on it, because they know people will want to travel |

miracle002:Dangote is not doing monopoly. There are four other producing refineries in Nigeria Plus if Nigerians had not repeatedly blocked subsidy removal since 1993, meaning refining crude was not profitable here, and meaning also that no one was going to give loans to anyone to build refinery because when refinery is selling product at subsidsed rate...not enough profit would be made for ROI and paying off any loans taken for building the refinery, ( dangote in essence used his other companies as collateral for the loans he collected basically)..that's why out of 59-60 licences issues for refinery as at 2012, dangote refinery is one of five working. Bua and one other are coming up though |

We must do everything to ensure there is competition in the downstream sector. Dangote must never be allowed to become a monopoly. |

Tinubu is using Dangote et al to crush the so-called cabals. Leave that man. He's cunning as Hell. I predicted that Dangote was just following FGs script and that Farouk would be sacked. |

wunmi590:Remember we got tinubu economy, and many drivers are operating under the same tinubu economy. Also, no business person owes anyone low prices. They will charge the price that will enable them make enough profit at the end of the day. That 'someone owes us low prices' mentality is why we have bad power supply and lost four working refineries. |

| Re: NNPCL Reduces Fuel Price By ₦80 by nairalanda1(m): 1:48pm On Dec 19, 2025 |
BlackPantherxXx:It's more like , now that we have domestic refining, imported fuel is more expensive. A person importing fuel has to pay shipping costs on top of all the other costs. Dangote doesn;t need to (in theory, as he does import some crude). The thing is, if subsidy had gone in 1993, or even earlier, all the teething problems we have now would have been solved since, and domestic refining would be the norm, not the exception |

miracle002:Dangote want to be setting price. How can imported price be cheaper than indigenous price. And you're saying your own has better quality as if dangote petrol will allow me to drive my car to heaven. ![]() |
| Re: NNPCL Reduces Fuel Price By ₦80 by nairalanda1(m): 1:51pm On Dec 19, 2025 |
doncartel:LOL...no 24 hour electricity until every nigerian on the grid pays cost reflective tarrifs, the same now as we do for fuel...we are paying the actual market cost (ie cost reflective costs) for a liter. Thus dangote can make enough profits to make price reduction make some sense. As for the power sector...60% of metered customers are bypassing the meter, 20% of the customers overall are in principle paying cost reflective tarrifs, and the rest are paying subsidised prices, or underpaying, or not paying at all (that is why the discos ripoff some customers with estimated billing...they have to do that or they will collpase financially) |

miracle002:There was a time when the month December signified acute fuel scarcity, long que at petrol stations and fuel hike. Fast forward to 2025, fuel prices are being reduced five days to Christmas. Let us use this xmas season to pray for more wisdom, good health and divine direction for Asiwaju Tinubu because those who pray for the prosperity of their land shall prosper and those who support Donald Trump's make America great again policies yet doesn't wish Nigeria well, it shall never be well with them. |

miracle002:Concurrent cliché thats the lies you fill yourself with, how can dangote enforce monopoly when he is not the regulator issuing licenses and he as no authority to ban importation In Nig. if you try a business n it brings money b4 you know two or four person will open the business right next to Funnily, Dangote open Refinery ... nobody wan join the business except for easy importation ... 45 licenses issued none is building instead dey divert to import No capitalist wants competition, its very normal thats why we Have Regulators to ensure entry nd fairness Now that we have one huge Refinery, our import should be shift from " Flooding" to augment the market with import if our daily need is 7million litre and Dangote daily output is 2million litre ... regulators should peg import around 5million per day that will give every player a level playing ground, buh continue to import 7million that a sabotage on dangote he as to fight back |
