COAS Commissions Housing Estate, Reserves Five Percent For Wounded Soldiers by Pakute(op): 5:37pm On Dec 20, 2025
The Nigerian Army has inaugurated 60 housing units comprising two- and three-bedroom flats, at Akobo in Ibadan, Oyo State, and allocated five percent of the houses free of charge to soldiers who sustained disabilities in the line of duty.

Seventy percent of the housing units were also reserved for soldiers at highly subsidized rates, as part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of its personnel.

According to a statement by the Army’s spokesperson, Colonel Apollonia Anele, on Friday, the housing units are part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) Housing Scheme.

A shopping complex was also inaugurated under the Post Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL).

According to the statement, the projects were inaugurated by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who said that affordable housing remains a critical pillar of the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda, in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The COAS said the project is a practical demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” philosophy, noting that access to decent and affordable housing is central to troop morale, operational effectiveness, and post-service stability.

“The AHOOAS scheme is designed to ensure that soldiers retire in dignity, with secure home ownership in locations of their choice,” he said.

The Army Chief said the expansion of the scheme to Ibadan, Benin, Jos, Akwa Ibom, and other locations was informed by the successes of the pilot phase in Idu, Abuja, which, he said, delivered over 400 housing units.

He said plans are also underway to fast-track home ownership for Army Warrant Officers.

While commending the Oyo State Government for its sustained support to military formations and traditional institutions for promoting peace and cooperation, General Shaibu urged other state governments to support the scheme by allocating land for future phases.

He praised Post Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) for its professionalism and acknowledged Family Homes Funds Limited for partnering with the Nigerian Army to build 50 housing units for widows of fallen heroes.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PHDL, Major General Isiah Alison, said the 60 housing units comprise 30 two-bedroom houses for Non-Commissioned Officers and 30 three-bedroom houses for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers.

He added that five percent of the houses were allocated free of charge to soldiers who sustained disabilities in the line of duty, while 70 percent of the units were reserved for soldiers at highly subsidized rates.

“Houses constructed at costs of up to ₦30 million were sold to soldiers for as low as ₦7.5 million,” Alison explained, describing the initiative as a deliberate welfare intervention rather than a commercial venture.

“Similar housing projects are ongoing in other locations, alongside service shopping complexes designed to support small businesses and stimulate the local economic activities of troops’ families,” he said.

Nothing good comes from the devil for free.

I sympathize with all the poor Nigerian youths that joined Nigerian Army out of poverty and unemployment and still got wounded on duty because of leadership corruption, God will have mercy on you all that lived a good life as soldiers and didn't use your uniform to harass, intimidate and maim civilians

Why should God bless an evil person who raised IGR and budget 100 times from increasing tax burden on Lagosians without building low cost housing for them, like Jakande did in just four years before Buhari jailed him for corruption huh

What government services, utilities, facilities maintenance etc in the past 26 years of Tinubu TAX monster plan can match what progressive UPN govern did without squeezing out IGR from the public?

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.

How old are you?.. you don't have elders that can educate and enlighten you?. Do you think during Jakande's time, he was going to Abuja to collect monthly allocations?. Baba had control over Lagos resources and that's why he was able to do all that he did. Why are you comparing to Tinubu who had no such opportunity, even the FG seized Lagos allocations from coming to him. Receive sense!

you mean it is one of there duties to produce bottle water, bottle water turned amenities. government is meant to provide all these amenities and the soldiers concentrate on combat duties.

I doubt the top echelon in the advanced countries you mentioned will have time to produce bottle or go building houses as area of concentration.
There's life after retirement, that's why shopping complex are being built for small businesses..
You just exposed yourself that you haven't traveled past your backwaters. You would have known that armed forces in advanced countries have artisans are involved in economic activities that generate revenue for the institution.

The most important part of this news is the 5% allocated free of charge to soldiers with disabilities. These guys lost their limbs and health for our peace; they shouldn't have to worry about rent or a roof over their heads. This is the kind of welfare that boosts morale at the frontlines. When a soldier knows his family is secured, he fights with more heart. God bless the Nigerian Army. We need more of this in every sector.

You must be too young to even read for you to vomit this propaganda garbage.

Regional resource control ended in 1966 with Ironsi’s Unification Decree 34.

The Allocation of Revenue (Federation Account, etc.) Act, was enacted in 1982 a year before UPN progressive governments were replaced with military dictators led by Buhari.

Lagos State portion of the shared 27% among 36 states, was never seized. Only the LGA allocation, which is 20% shared among 774 local governments that was seized because Tinubu and his AG Osinbajo laboured in vain to smuggle new LGAs into the 1999 constitution.

Do you even have a container to receive sense huh

You're the kid here, are you aware UPN Governors sued the Federal Government all the way to the Supreme Court over unfair allocations?. It was Tax drive that helped Jakande generate revenue for his projects. He collected as much taxes as he could.
You say it was LG allocations that was seized, so what should happen to local Govt civil servants?, they should starve to death?. How can a Governor and a commissioner smuggle new LGs into the constitution?. Do you guys go to school at all? grin
And why did the Supreme Court order the release of the withheld money if a Governor do not have power to create LCDAs not LG. Receive sense!

This is a commendable and practical show of leadership. Prioritising wounded soldiers and making home ownership affordable reinforces morale, dignity, and long-term stability for those who serve the nation.
