Learning from others is key not praise singing. I am very very disappointed in Igbo governors. We are a people that travel. We are well educated. We need to do more.

Modernity is not about building haphazardly but planning systems with maximum impact.

Soludo is doing the right thing by dualizing roads but is that enough? What about pavements, parking, traffic lights, drainage, public transport?

He has not done enough with his budget and as for capacity, he selected his own cabinet. If they are not performing it starts with him. Contrast Alex Ottis commissioners with Anambras and it should be obvious.

He has three more years and he should focus on what's achievable not grand visions that go nowhere. This is what I want from him:

1) Obiano transitioned Anambra from the madness of Okada in cities. He should likewise phase out tricycles and those 6 seater shuttles from cities and implement 10 seater public transport vehicles using either CNG or EV. Make transport organized and affordable with routes, stops and get someone with a planning brain to execute it.

2) Build more youth friendly things. Upgrade the Awka and Onitsha libraries and transform into activity hubs with free wifi, programs for reshaping young minds, exchanging ideas and learning crafts. Build free basketball, tennis, volleyball, football courts in public schools and encourage sports to reduce crime, drugs among youth.

3) Relocate large markets out of the center of cities. Eke Awka, Ochanja as classic case in points. Any market with more than 100 stalls must meet code requirements like parking, water, waste management and security.

4) Restructure governance by putting Communities at the apex of governance. Towns should be responsible for local roads, markets, waste management, sanitation, and security with support from the state government.

5) Attract power projects to the state. Anambra needs at least 500MW of power. There are a variety of options for obtaining this power. Renewable energy such as solar farms is the obvious one. Another is building a HVDC transmission line from power plants in nearby states like Imo.

Did he got the Lagos land for free? There's a difference between government taking land for overriding public interest and an individual seeking land for business purposes. Land is premium in the SE, some communities have less than a thousand hectares for themselves and their future generations. It will unfair to take without giving them a fair amount in return. Even dangote paid a 100M dollars for his refinery land in Lagos

Erosion: Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage

Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes.

The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws.

Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state.

“ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. Communities are also expected to comply with specific guidelines, including the construction of erosion barriers and excavating sand only in approved locations,” Mefor said.

The commissioner also disclosed that the government would set up a committee to recover government lands across the state. According to him, the decision followed reports of widespread encroachment, with individuals illegally building on government-owned land.

Meanwhile, ANSEC approved the release of funds for several projects across the state.

Details showed that ₦95.2 million was approved for the provision of water to the newly constructed Ekwulobia flyover bridge fountain and ornamental garden, while ₦172 million was released for landscaping the car park of the new Trauma Centre at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka.

Other approvals include ₦93.4 million for the installation of a three-way traffic light with pedestrian signals at the Ifite-Amenyi intersection in Awka metropolis; ₦50.4 million for the supply and installation of two 10kVA inverters with 15kW lithium batteries at the Anambra State Civil Service Commission building, Awka; and ₦119.1 million for the supply and installation of transformer substations in Nnewi and Umueze-Anam communities.

The amount of contract inflation (on average 400%) means that the waste of government monies is incredibly high. It means that only 25% of the government expenditure goes to cost of actual projects. The rest enriches contractors.
This is why I will always question intent and do not salivate over pictures of projects. The Anambra state budget should be large enough to make significant difference in peoples lives not window-dressing with a few roads and buildins here and there.

The final look of the Ikenga mall is quite impressive but I have my fears about its long term profitabilty and viabilty for potential tenants.......! Indoor malls have seen their best days even in consumer mad united states.........nearly 75% of the indoor malls in america in 1985 have failed or gone bankrupt.......the ones that have not been demolished have been turned into mixed use developments ....residential,hotel,services .....etc!

Strip mall development is cheaper to run and gives each retail tenant a shop facing the main road instead of all shops being cooped up in an indoor arena that costs an arm and a leg to illuminate and cool!

The nnewi mall should be redesigned as much as possible to be open air ...with shops facing the mainroad or at least with public facing entrance doors...just my suggestion!

The beautiful thing about the Ikenga mall is that it combines both indoor and outdoors. The shops in the front can easily be accessed without going into the mall. It’s quite a unique mall, it’s going to be profitable because it’s a whole big place that has combination of eateries, cineplexes, pharmacies, restaurants, upscale shopping like market square, etc. it’s a whole lot of mix use that will attract a lot of people for different purposes.,

Thats a good design ! Reminds me of falomo shopping complex And Adeniran Ogunsanya shopping complex in Ikoyi and Surulere respectively..........these were built in the 1970s............how and when we jumped into Amercan style malls is still a mystery to me! It is way too expensive! Igbo entrepreneurship is based on cheap and easy start up costs........and a long stretch to build up strenght and speed!
No wonder small and big businesses located in these malls find it hard to survive!
