When some of us opposed this tax law from day one, some APC loyalists called us unprintable names. I decided to share my opinion on my Facebook page instead of on Nairaland.

The way it's structured by the FG, it's a pure fallacy that the poor will not be affected. In fact, the poor will be badly affected.

Forget about databases; the poor masses will end up paying company income tax on behalf of businesses, and they will still pay personal income tax. 80,000 naira cannot sustain a grown man for a month unless he doesn't plan to eat, wash his clothes, pay rent, or spend money on transport. Yet, the government caps taxable income at 66,750 naira. The kind of economy we run in Nigeria doesn't fit all these ill-conceived taxes that the federal government is trying to introduce. I won't say much more. Let them continue with their plan so they can see how they have failed Nigerians and made the people poorer. Over 80% of Nigerians will have nothing left in their accounts at the end of the year because what they earn is not even enough to cater to their basic needs.

Who told you Nigeria has no "proper database"? Why is there so much misinformation about the new tax policy?

According to FIRS, Nigerians do not need to present a separate tax identification card or number before accessing banking services. Instead, the country’s tax system has been restructured to work seamlessly with existing identification platforms like the National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) records.

No society is perfect or becomes perfect overnight, if there's need for further tweeks here and there, them the Senate better get to work cos PBAT won't back down just as he didn't on other major policies

I dont understand the antagonism against this law,frankly. No new tax was introduced, no rate was raised, the only thing changing is that all of us must pay! So we wey don dey pay since my adult life be mumu? Did they wait till database was perfect b4 they started charging me tax? But they must wait till it is perfect b4 Audu, chigioke and Ayinla can be charged, bcoz dem get 3heads?
We all must pay tax, tax base must be broadened! Few cannot be subsidizing majority and we all still ask for same amenities!

So, 18th century Europe waited until they had a full data of everyone before the started taxing their people.

Even today, more than 200 years later, there is no single country in Europe, and probably the world that has information on every person living within their borders.

Does the US have data on everyone living in the US? Has that stopped it from taxing those it gas data on?

Also your bank account information, NIN, etc represents enough data to start with.

Talking of imports from China, high import duties, and other charges are a means of protecting local manufacturers, otherwise imported and subsidised Chinese goods will be so cheap that local industries will die out.

So China unfairly subsidises its exporters in order to make their exports very cheap, yet you don't want Nigeria to take counter measures to support its own manufacturers

You are just wasting your time cause there's nothing those guys won't defend. Even with the recent report of the forgery of the tax laws they are ready to defend it till the end. Even if they are outside the nations shores their friends and family will be part of it here so they should try to be putting off their phones in the coming months to avoid billing.

Importation fee is actually less in Nigeria compared to other Africa countries. Ghana and Kenya for example, buying car there is just too expensive
