What changed?

People are daft.

Same thing happened in JW when they weren't allowed to wear beards. I never supported that BS then. I clearly told close associates of the same faith that it was a foolish thing to follow someone blindly. Today they wear beards blindly because they were told they could.

Same with the blood transfusion doctrine.

Trends and rules can shift over time, and people often follow without questioning. JW (Jehovah's Witnesses) policies on beards and blood transfusions have evolved. I also have a critical perspective on blind adherence.

What changed?

Realisation of the motive behind the initial ban was what changed.

Don't confuse religion with God. Religion is man-made.
BUT THERE'S NO GREATER MISTAKE YOU CAN EVER MAKE
THEN TO CONFUSE A MAN MADE INSTITUTION WITH THE ALMIGHTY GOD
RELIGION IS RELIGION
God is God

RELIGION IS AN INSTITUTION CREATED BY MAN TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF MEN.
WHEN THE ARABS INVADED NORTH AFRICA AND CONQUERED OUR NORTHERN TERRITORY THEY HAD NO MANDATE FROM GOD TO DO THAT.
WHEN THE EUROPEANS TOOK CHRISTIANITY AND USED IT TO JUSTIFY THE TRANSATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE THEY HAD NO MANDATE FROM GOD TO DO THAT

SO WE HAVE TO RECOGNIZE RELIGION IS AN INSTITUTION THAT IS SEPARATE FROM THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR

What changed?

They have always been free but for ignorance of the truth, because these devices weren't demonic or of the devil, but devices that can be used either for good or evil, for advancing the kingdom of God and preaching of the Gospel or that of the kingdom of darkness and the works of the devil.

Hence it was ignorant to assume the otherwise in the first place, but it's always better late than never to realise one's error and to correct it.

Faith is not a possession of all kinds of people {2Thessalonians 3:2} Israelites in ancient times also think like many people today.
How?
By choosing when to obey God's chosen leaders among them but only few among them got to the promised land.

*Would you have continue following Moses knowing very sure that the distance between the red see and the land of Canaan only takes a 40 days walk when it took them more than 3 years?

*Would you still obey him after he was accused by prominent and elderly ones among Israelites?

The Bible never our salvation comes from being smart but humility {Matthew 5:5} and thirsty for righteousness {Matthew 5:6} that's exactly what God's prophet said more than five centuries before the birth of Jesus! Zephaniah 2:2-3

But why shouldn't we rely on our own understanding {Proverbs 3:5} or wisdom {Proverbs 3:7} in this time of the end?

Well it's because the more we choose to be wise the more we pick faults with those taking the lead among God's people {Numbers 16:2-3} and since many are easily carried away with rebellion {Exodus 23:2} God will judge each person according to his actions against God's anointed. Psalms 2:2

The worst part of it is what Jesus himself said about his anointed brothers he emphasized that anyone who despise them he will not allow in his Kingdom. Matthew 25:41-46
