Rivers 2027: The agreement was clear, he wouldn't seek re-election. — Wike by Nairalandankra(op): 10:15am On Dec 23, 2025
The arrangement was clear: no second term, no local government control, and peace will return,” Wike.

so What changed?

President Bola Tinubu agreed to reinstate Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers state — but with the condition that he will not seek re-election in 2027, TheCable.

The truce was reached during a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, where Tinubu hosted Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT); Fubara; Martin Amaewhule, the suspended speaker of the Rivers assembly; and a handful of lawmakers.

Presidency sources say the deal, part of a broader effort to restore democratic order in Rivers, involved significant concessions one of which is that Fubara will be reinstated to complete his four-year tenure but must forgo any plans to seek a second term in 2027 — a move that will limit his clout but to which he agreed.

A source said, as part of the conditions, Wike would be allowed to nominate all the local government chairpersons across the 23 LGAs of the state.

the source in the presidency said this would serve as significant political leverage, restoring grassroots control to the FCT minister.

TheCable understands that Fubara also agreed to pay all outstanding allowances and entitlements owed to the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike who were suspended from the state assembly.

.The deal was about restoring calm, but at a steep cost for Fubara,”

Now what is democratic about this issue? He is busy cajoling and coercing everyone to galvanize for his own second term but here he is shutting the door for others.

Nothing new! This is the baba soope sophisticate brand of oppressive, suppressive and repugnant agbero gangsterism politics that his supporters called political sagacity. As for Wike, you will surely feel the heat.

The easiest way for Tinubu and Apc to win Rivers State is for Fubara to be on Apc ticket & for the entire structure to be handed over to him. As it stands Majority of Rivers people hate woke & his people. Rigging def go dey very difficult now. The smoothest path to Apc victory is for them to hand over everything to sim.

Who made Fubara governor? Wike, he Fubara is a very weak politician, he is not coming back, Apc will win easily without him, because the opposition in Rivers state is been controlled by same Wike.

Fubara is a political desperado trying to play smart, & as usual not been clever.

Tinubu is the master of betrayals after getting what he wants. Elrufai, Kashim Imam, Ganduje, Wike, the list goes on. Soon will be Shettima. Why enter into agreements only to renege on them? His supporters call it the master strategy. This is all Wike gets in return after destroying the PDP to Tinubu's advantage. We have no sympathies for him, anyway. He had it coming

Your first term, plenty wahala happened in Okirika cos Rivers people don't wants you. If not for Patience Jonathan that really want to deal with Ameachi, u will never be governor.
Despite the Odilis paving way for your second term,APC was disqualified by Court from contesting the governorship election.
AC ,a party from nowhere log it on with you to inconclusive election and you will think you are popular in Rivers State.

Those who sit down in Abuja allowing you to be using Rivers State as leverage don't know d reality on ground.

I think werey is supposed to blame, his own kinsman that giving Fubara problem, if you people are not fighting dirty in your family house, Tinubu would not intervened.

Anyway, what can one do for eternal wailer?......just to allow him lamenting day and night, in other to shed small from his full bitterness.

It's easy putting burden on others that yourself cannot bear.
Would Wike, in the wildest of imagination, ever take such a condition to never seek re-election?
Is Wike the owner of all Rivers State natives and residents? What if the people want their Governor to go again for second tenure? So he shouldn't so as not to displease Wike?

It can only be because of Sim that Rivers people would support Tinubu in 2027. If Sim doesn't contest, then APC and Tinubu should just forget it completely in Rivers State!

Dirty talk.Have you ever seen an incumbent gov in Nigeria that didn't seek re-election?Expect outbreak of fresh rift between Wike and Fubara though I have once said Fubara has walked into a political boobytrap with his foolish decision to join APC.
