US Surveillance Flights Over Nigeria Spike After Trump’s Threat by Iexclusivenews(op): 12:03am On Dec 23, 2025
US surveillance flights over Nigeria intensify after Trump's military intervention threat against Islamic terrorism.

The United States has been conducting intelligence flights over Nigeria since November. Moreover, flight tracking data confirms extensive surveillance operations across the country. Current and former officials have verified these missions.

The surveillance flights signal heightened security cooperation between both nations. However, the exact purpose of these missions remains unclear. Officials have not provided independent confirmation of operational objectives.

Trump warned in November about possible military intervention in Nigeria. Furthermore, he threatened to stop all aid over Christian persecution. The president accused Nigeria of failing to protect Christian communities.

"If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians," Trump posted. Additionally, he warned the US "may very well go into that country." His social media post threatened action against Islamic terrorists.

Trump instructed the Department of War to prepare for action. "If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet," he stated. The president described potential intervention as retaliatory against terrorist atrocities.

Flight tracking shows aircraft typically depart from Accra, Ghana. Subsequently, they fly over Nigerian airspace before returning to Ghana's capital. December data reveals consistent operational patterns throughout the month.

The surveillance aircraft is operated by Tenax Aerospace from Mississippi. In addition, the company provides special mission aircraft services. Tenax works closely with the US military on classified operations.

Liam Karr from the American Enterprise Institute analyzed the flight data. Consequently, he identified Accra as a known US military logistics hub. The operation appears to be coordinated from Ghana's capital.

Karr explained that these flights suggest intelligence capacity rebuilding efforts. Meanwhile, Niger expelled US forces from a major air base recently. Russia has since become Niger's preferred security partner instead.

"In recent weeks, we've seen a resumption of surveillance flights," Karr noted. Therefore, Washington is adapting its regional intelligence strategy. The shift follows significant geopolitical changes in West Africa.

A former US official revealed that multiple assets were moved to Ghana. Additionally, missions include tracking a kidnapped American pilot. Intelligence gathering targets Boko Haram and Islamic State affiliates.

Islamic State West Africa Province remains a primary surveillance target. Similarly, other militant groups operating across Nigeria are being monitored. The missions provide critical intelligence on terrorist movements.

This is outrageous! Tinubu should grow balls and command dump to stop violating our airspace!

Trump should focus on fixing his own country instead of trying to meddle in Nigeria. We don’t need foreign intervention, especially from the likes of Trump who have their own agenda.

Nigerian government should work with the US to comprehensively deal with the terrorism issue.

This is the most encouraging and positive news to emerge from Nigeria in the past 15 years. Hopefully the US drones prowling the unfriendly skies of Nigeria will move beyond the promised surveillance and support of the Nigerian military, to a well publicized campaign of implementing a policy focused on devastating bombardment of all terrorist camps, vehicular convoys, gatherings, meetings and remote training grounds.

For good measure, cooperative information sharing between the US and Nigerian militaries will quickly establish the real identity of any and all groupings of men spotted by drones anywhere in Nigeria carrying infantry weapons. Once any sighting on the ground has been confirmed to be neither Nigerian military, police, or vigilante in nature, then the order to obliterate all such combatants should be handed down within minutes whereby that the drone can then roll in and do the needful by unleashing ballistic missiles or close-up cannon fire until the threat is reduced to smoldering wreckage that has been fully de-militarized.

This is not surprising. The US has been monitoring the activities of those terrorist groups for a while now and the monitoring is now being done over Nigeria following the recent developments.

From what we know so far, the US has conducted ISR related flights over Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Ekiti and Kwara state. It may have surveilled other states but this is what has been seen for now. This is not classified intel. Anyone conversant with flightradar.com can view it.

The US surveillance flights are a welcome development. We need all the help we can get in this fight against terrorism.

Since it is only the aircraft that choose to leave on their transponders that remain visible to Flight Radar24, one can safely presume that numerous recon flights are being conducted in Nigerian skies by US aircraft and drones whose transponders are left OFF to keep such birds completely invisible.

This means that while the slave-raiding Islamist terrorists might imagine themselves to be clever by studying FlightRadar24 in a bid to know when they should hide from view by overhead drones, it is the drones that are invisible that could wind up reducing such groups of killers to ash spontaneously and without any warning ever seen on Flight Radar 24. The bombardment is long overdue, and should commence right away if it has not already.

I don't want USA to start at all, as I'm very aware of the chaos they caused in countries they've meddled in in the past.

You shouldn't use Libya as a comparison undecided the USA were after their president due to their fear of him having nukes angry

Our case in Nigeria is an obvious genocide being committed by non state actors . . . I might be wrong but I see no similarity in our cases at all don't you think? 🤔

I wonder sometimes whether a few of the more recent Nigerian Air Force aerial strikes to wipe out slave-raiding terrorist kidnappers and Fulani land-grabbers were in fact targeted using GPS data furnished by USA surveillance drone operators collaborating with the Nigerian military, OR whether US drone strikes are already in progress under a veil of strategic secrecy, whereby each successful liquidation of terrorists is publicly credited to the Nigerian military by mutual agreement.

Jakumo, the African Civet cat, is regarded in Yoruba mythology as an elusive and shadowy phantom of the night with ambiguous morality that never strolls about during daylight hours.

Jakumo kii riin l'osan (Jakumo never goes walking by daylight)
Eni a bii re, kiin rin l'oru. (People of good rearing never venture out in the dead of night )

As one who has hunted deep in the swampy African rain forest gliding silent canoes amid the swirling black currents of rivers at night where the eyes of crocodiles reflect bright red along the shoreline, I never once encountered the fabled Jakumo Civet Cat, so that mystery and elusiveness inspired be to adopt the nom-de-plume of Jakumo twenty years ago when Oga Seun first created the Nairaland online discussion forum.

Most interesting. You are a most interesting fellow.

I had actually thought it was Japanese (Yakumo)/ Eight Clouds. Or related to "Kokumo" a Yoruba prayer for an Abiku child to stop dying.

Ironically Russia is currently hiring black Africans to join the military and be fed into the meat grinder Ukraine war. Quite a few Ghanaian citizens were recently captured and interviewed on camera by Ukrainian forces. They were of course the lucky ones who were not spotted by kamikaze drones at the war front.

As you rightly observe, if the mighty Russian Bear is not too proud to beg for outside military help, then the recent military pact between Nigeria, the UK and the USA to jointly fight Islamist terror in Nigeria before it gets out of hand, is praiseworthy and welcomed by all who love peace.
