I ask you;
What has changed?

Re: THROWBACK: See One Of The Presidential Campaign Posters, 42 Years Ago by nairalanda1(m): 8:20pm On Dec 23, 2025
Well, the thing is , actual change involves a lot of hardship and hard work

But Nigerians don't want to hear that. We want to hear sweet tongued politicans promising us the moon and the stars and the twenty galaxies
Re: THROWBACK: See One Of The Presidential Campaign Posters, 42 Years Ago by Carazon: 8:22pm On Dec 23, 2025
We are still repeating the same campaign slogans

Because Nigerians don't want to hear the truth.

We want to hear emilokan. And I will build you road.

Emilokan is more sincere than those promising heaven on Earth and ends up doing nothing.

Emilokan didn't promise you anything, he simply told you that he wants to be there because it is his turn.

Which kind of meets many of his constituency aspirations. It's our turn . It's an easier message than 'we gat work to do'

Note that his constituency doesn't necessarily mean Yourbas only.

Nigerians think of development in terms of their patron getting to the top and sharing the money to them. That's why people on this site don't like.hearing serious economic discussions

They are both the same thing. It is our turn

And it is an easier message than ' Nigeria needs to do some serious work and make some serious choices over a generation before things improve:

Take back our country, it is the church turn to rule, north owns Nigeria , etc..all are the same message. And why we aren't developed at all.

Exactly. APC preferred to promise bread and circuses, rather than tell the truth that we needed to fix our economy the hard way. Especially as dropping oil prices meant measures that were tough needed to be taken .

We are chasing away our milleis and Yew's. We prefer storytellers and people telling us it's our turn.

Like APC . It's your turn. Not it's time to cut waste and fix things properly
Re: THROWBACK: See One Of The Presidential Campaign Posters, 42 Years Ago by richiemcgold:
Same problem, same strategy, same promises, nothing changes, except the printing technology. Now we have colorful posters, banners and billboards. That's the only change I see here.

Like APC
In sane countries, they vote for ideologies, promises, visions etc (ie story telling) than someone who climbs podium with broom to dance and shout emilokan, Bala Blu

The kind of politicians we vote shows why we are where we are as a country

The sad thing is that still after 42 years none of all the campaign promises there have been achieved. Every president comes in promising the same and yet we still remain where we are.

Politicians telling lies in politics didn't start today. Lying to the electorates is an essential tool in politics, without which you're not a politician and will not get followers. You must understand how to press the mumu button in your target audience. kiss

Re: THROWBACK: See One Of The Presidential Campaign Posters, 42 Years Ago by grandstar(m):
And this was after NPN had destroyed the economy.

The closest to Shagari in governance is GEJ. Both were weak, allowed their underlings to control things, oversaw very high levels of corruptions.

There was a Hausa Maiguard who beat his wife for voting for Shagari.

The elections were massively and that's how he won the re-election.

However, for the second term, no more games. He started appointing ministers on merit. One of the appointees was a man who Shagari never knew.

The 2nd term was cut short by the Buhari led Coup D'état on December 31, 1983. It was the first time i ever heard of a coup.

I thought their Emilokan knew it was going to be him, he did not even need any prophesy that he even asked El Rufai to speak for him during his campaign. He knew his 'team' but to cover Nigeria's back in international space after getting there, he is showing confusion. Mr Teamship, the man who can spot talents. The joke is on you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtvPDLq2P3E[/quote]Even here where he wasn't debating with anyone, he still could not bring himself to answer questions. The world is watching Nigeria and they can see how we are making a full of ourselves

This country produced couple of billionaires in dollars that was never imagined 42 years ago.
Except for one ot two,non of these men and a lady made their money outside Nigeria.
Nigeria is a trading outpost, where the merchants and collaborators no longer want enjoyment to come our way. What becomes of us is not their problems,so far we continue to work, buy their goods even if it is with our blood

"Remain where we are" keh? We have really retrogressed as a nation. We have lost our rudder and our ship is being sailed by visionless and clueless people, being supported by gullible people.

1..we need to cut the size of the government
2..we need to fight corruption
3.. we need to get off oil dependency

You get a German sherpard it barks! You replace it with a Rottweiler, it barks, again you keep replacing the dogs, you try a bulldog, terrier, Doberman etc etc they all bark. You forget a dog is a dog irrespective of breed and all dogs bark….that’s what they do!

Our problem is not politicians or the leaders. Our problem is the nature of the average Nigerian. Whatever the “problem” of the politicians and leaders, you can see in your everyday interaction with fellow ordinary Nigerians.

Politicians and leaders are not aliens. They reflect and carry the character and traits of you the average Nigerian. They don’t suddenly assume a character or trait they don’t have simple because they become a politician. If the average Nigerian is a crook, dishonest or lacking in integrity, he doesn’t suddenly become a saint because he is elected to office.

There are civil servants who are in their 60s and about to retire who have served and stolen under every government since Shagari, whether PDP or APC or NPN or military. They are ordinary Nigerians. No government can steal a single penny without a civil servant. Like Fashola said…..”I don’t sign Cheques”. Remember, for every theft by a politician, a civil servant is involved.
