Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has granted pardon to a death row inmate, Sunday Jackson.

Jackson was sentenced to death for killing a herdsman.

An Adamawa farmer, Jackson is widely perceived to have been unjustly sentenced for allegedly killing a herdsman in self-defence.

There has been widespread calls for intervention in his case.

Jackson who is in Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre was pardoned alongside Joseph Eugene from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Yola, and Maxwell Ibrahim, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Center in Kaduna.

The pardon is in commemoration of Christmas and New Year celebrations, according to a statement released on Tuesday in Yola by Governor Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

“Others who had the remainder of their sentences remitted whole include Joshua James Audo, Adamu Ibrahim, Mohammed Abubakar, Ibrahim Usman and Saidu Abubakar serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Numan and Medium Security Custodial Centre, Jada,” Humwashi stated.

He explained that Governor Fintiri extended his gesture to the inmates because the inmates had demonstrated significant improvement in their behaviour and conduct.

He has the right to self-defense and has no business staying locked up for more than few days after investigations.

The judge that passed that initial sentence should be ashamed of his self.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.


Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Know this if you are a Christian like Nigerian. When you defend yourself against maraudimg terrorists in Nigeria as regards self defence which is uncontestable in the whole laws of the world, in Nigeria you need a pardon from the governor

That judge that sentenced this man needs to be probed. Self defence is a universal law and right.

The senate and house of representatives, instead of being stooges, should amend the constitution, and ensure self defence is recognised, punishing a citizen for defending himself against a territorists is working for the territorists and encouraging terrorists.

If you attack with a knife, the intention is to kill, it is foolishness to allow oneself to be killed, even among animals self defence is inherent, it is a natural reaction. If an attacker dies, in the course of carrying out a deadly attack with a deadly weapon, and dies in the course of the victim defending himself, then it makes no sense for the victim to be sentenced to prison.

We should act like human beings and our laws should reflect it... sentencing a man to death for defending himself is a clear case of bias.

The precedent has already been set by the supreme court. It is a very unfortunate situation in Nigeria.
