Do They Want Nigerians Overtaxed? Onanuga Replies Those Asking For Suspension Of New Tax Laws

Those calling for the suspension of the Tax Act, which goes into effect in a week’s time, should listen to Taiwo Oyedele. As he asked, do they want a sustenance of the status quo when the poor Nigerians and small businesses are overtaxed?

I really pity Taiwo Oyedele. Dude left PWC where he was worshiped like a god globally to take up the tax reform job thinking it’s going to be a piece of cake like he made his job at PWC looked like. Today, he has to deal with all kinds of lies, misinformation, misinterpretation, personal attacks, etc.

From governors attacking him to northerners calling him names to journalist like Rufai Oseni reporting outright falsehood to paid Twitter influencers tweeting outlandish nonsense to a whole lots of stuff. Today, the new nonsense they are throwing around is a forged law. Banger boys like Peter Obi etc have quickly jumped on it even without evidence of any irregularity.

So, when people oversimplify governance, I just look at them and laugh at their ignorance. When Elon Musk started DOGE under Trump, someone told him he will soon find out that it’s easier to land a rocket in space than to lead a reform in public sector. Elon barely lasted five months in the Job.

Nigerians never cease to amaze me. How can you expect a law that has been passed to be suspended?
Re: Bayo Onanuga Replies Those Asking For Suspension Of New Tax Laws by Putindbutt(m): 8:58pm On Dec 24, 2025
No man born of a woman or brought out through a knife can stop the tax law as from January 1st next year.

I don't know why I'm personally not interested in this tax law thingy. What's the fuss all about? Have we not been paying tax either directly or indirectly? Is this Tax Act gonna change how we used to get taxed?

The only thing I could deduce is that it appears the rich will suffer heavy taxation. So why should I be particularly concerned knowing it won't affect the average citizens? Abi na my small "30k bmc allowance" (according to pitobi people) dem want begin dey impose tax on?

An opposition lawmaker from Sokoto raised a dust over the tax laws. We understand the politics behind it, those who have been against it from day 1.

Have the poor and middle income earning citizens of this nation been spared of the chronic endless multiple taxation policies of the catastrophic govt this loquacious buffoon is subservient to?

Just listen to yourself, defending outright criminality,if it wasn't altered as alleged, government Gazetted copy and what they national assembly passed is already in the public domain.
In higher climes, people are taxed and they can clearly point at what their taxes are used for,not when you borrow recklessly and you are seeking for a way to appease bretton wood institutions,at the detriment of the dying masses.
You dont tax poverty, suffocating the people, with multiple taxes, the same people that provide water, electricity and security for their businesses and home. We are going to be taxed on what we buy and what we sell, what we earn and what we spend. When subsidy was removed in petroleum,we were promised heaven on earth but guess what?the situation worsened, the discounted fare buses promised to be made available in every nook and cranny of this nation,is no where to be found. In the first 3 month of the removed subsidy regime, they told us they made trillions as never been made before but guess what, they still went on borrowing spree.
We wont just watch this impunity, our voice and actions will be louder than ever.
Education subsidy removed, every subsidy previously enjoyed by Nigerians, removed and yet, like Oliver twist, they want more and absolutely nothing to show for it.

lol. Do you know what a gazette is? If you’ve not seen the gazette, how then did you know there is an alteration? A gazette is a government publication. It is always published. So, it’s already in public domain.

And by the way, where did you get the harmonized copy of the law from? Where is it?

PWC not KPMG. Even Nassarawa Governor who was his friend showed him pepper. The governor was formely with Dangote where he worked consulted Mr Taiwo for tax matters. Nigerians are not ready for change . But the government too is not doing enough to build trust relating to taxes

Which database are they going to use to make the tax collection to be effective?

The new tax law is not a bad idea but the implementation won't go as planned

Thanks for the correction,I posted quickly and mixed it up but I have since corrected that line,so what I meant to say is that since the 'Gazetted copy and what the national assembly allegedly passed,is already in the public domain',

All over the world, taxes were presented as a "rich only" affair to calm down the majority poor. At last, the poor paid more than the rich

You are the one spreading misinformation all because of tribal sentiment. First question, what Taiwo and his oversabi cronies gazette is it the same with what was passed by the legislature? What alter the Estate (inheritance) tax?

On Elon he was never a paid Government employee, and his contract lasted only for 90 days but DOGE is still operational

I believe that most people are not fundamentally opposed to paying taxes. However, the government has failed to gain the trust of its citizens due to a lack of transparency. If they intend to amend the new tax law submitted to both the lower and upper chambers, why can't they communicate that openly? It is disrespectful to underestimate the intelligence of the nation as if people wouldn’t notice.
